What is truly shocking is the identity of some of the posters who are being very critical of the Club. They should be very worried, but I doubt that they are.

Wow. Seriously? ???

Have we missed something ? It's a badly timed email. That's all. Why should anyone be 'very worried' ???

"Truly shocking"...."very critical"....."should be very worried"....

We are talking about an email touting discount tops from the club's merchandising department, aren't we? Honestly, if someone of Paul Samrah's gravitas is now taking huge offence at something so ridiculously minor then I would respectfully suggest that the club is in fact extremely good health.

Well said. What the shag is the drama from 'the old guard' all about?

Perhaps, rather than snide, cryptic digs at the club, they should be a bit more inclusive about what the problem is ? ???

As a club we are quite aware of the comments on this thread from all those who've contributed. To provide some perspective, this was one member of staff, trying to show some initiative, who simply made an error of judgement. We appreciate the timing wasn't perfect, and apologies to anyone who was genuinely offended (although, I would hope nobody was actually offended by the email). We do appreciate that some NSCers prefer not to receive these marketing emails, and some have made that very clear, but these e-mail campaigns are just one form of marketing which help the club boost its commercial revenue. We'd prefer you didn't of course, but fans can opt out of receiving such emails.

Appreciate the response, perhaps this one member of staff should have emailed the manager and asked him to pick his strongest side and motivate then to play for 90 mins and not 45! £380,000 prize money and a sell out 1/4 final at the Amex might have increased your revenue streams more than trying to flog 1/2 priced kits that's will be out of fashion in 3 months. Not offended by the email just frustrated.

Good to get some perspective - but are you really trying to say that a junior member of staff can single-handedly launch a discounted advertising campaign? There's not much that's more laughable than trying to cash in on an FA cup exit - but this might just have nailed it!

I do not feel offended, the only emotion I feel is hope, hope that the individual who sent the email is not affected in any way, and is not put-off, by the ridiculous outpouring in this thread. The level of very public criticism is totally out of proportion with the act; an act which does not even register on most people's radar.

I can imagine the scenario.

If we win, there will be a buzz of excitement and we will get an email out there to promote the shirt offer.

If we lose, do an email anyway - it might cheer people up.

Had we lost on penalties say, no problem. Had we lost 3-2 having fought back from 2-0 down - no problem. It is only the performance of the team that has upset and how is a marketing person supposed to gauge that?

I'd echo Herr T here.

This thread is hilarious.

I read the email at about 1am at some service station on the A1, & my reaction was that it was somewhat ill-thought out, perhaps lacking a sense of timing. I can't say it made me think about rushing out to buy some kit. But now, in the cold light of day, I just think it's quite funny.

Though still not as funny as some of the outraged reactions on here. Emailing Paul Barber in the guise of Disgusted From Denton or Furious Of Ferring? Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Have a look at yourselves :lolol:

I couldn't believe when I popped onto NSC this morning to see this thread is STILL going. I, as many, agreed it was poorely timed and was a piece of misjudgement.

In my view it is COMPLETELY right to initially raise these issues as the club need to be told if their marketing is not working how they'd hoped.

But that was it. As you say, this has just got RIDICULOUS now :lolol:

Ha Ha!

Benefit of making FA Cup 6th round .......... £500,000

Selling end of range shirts in a hurry ......... £500

Pissing off sensitive BHA fans .................... Priceless

The email wasn't exactly subtle or well-timed. I can fully understand why some might feed that back to the club. I am sure the club value feedback, if constructive.

However, I think it is probably more illustrative of the increasing commercialisation of football in general rather than anyone in high-ranking positions at the Albion losing touch with their support base.

I think they have lost touch somewhat , maybe its still a bit of a shock to the system to
some people that we are getting up near the big boys now if thats the right way of putting it
and find it hard to deal with maybe , I know I do sometimes.
But that was a shocking bit of timing literally sending out a begging letter for fans to buy stuff when we have just witnessed what we did.
Maybe my reaction was a tad knee jerk but we all do it at sometime.
What really pisses me off though is the people who come on here moaning and whining
about the people who are having a moan and whine that they are entitled to have as paying customers/fans /supporters.
Hypocrites all of them, because I bet if you looked back on their NSC histories they would be some of the biggest whingers and moaners of all time.

I was equally miffed when I saw it so soon after what was, in truth, a pretty dire performance.

But have you thought where you're going to stick Sexy Pete?

I've calmed down now but was just so angry at the time. I expect sexy Pete felt horrified and he felt like he let his team and fans down but that was then and we've all recovered from it and have moved on. It was a mistake and it's not worth dwelling on it now as that was yesterday and must now look forward to Saturday as we've still got an outside chance of still making the play offs.

Onwards and upwards :)

I can understand why the email annoyed people. It annoyed me.

But lets have a bit of context. This was the same night the club was reimbursing supporters who made the trip north.

The club might get some things wrong - and it is fair enough people discussing it when they do without getting shot down by other supporters.

But they also get quite a few things right. I don't think many clubs at this stage - or indeed any stage of the FA Cup - refunded fans their ticket price. I think that shows they appreciate the efforts supporters go to and, despite the odd bout of commercialism, are still relatively in touch with fans.

For all the hyped-up furore, the email has been given greater prominence than it otherwise would have. If we'd have won, it would have disappeared quietly as another attempt to clear the stock lines. Instead, we now have a well-advertised attempt to clear stock lines.

Genius marketing.

Uh-huh.

"The odd bout of commercialism". How else is the club supposed to pay its way? Tony Bloom isn't running a charity, though it must seem that way to him when he looks at how much he's continuing to pump in.

It's really very simple. If people don't want to buy merchandise, then don't buy it. But it's an important revenue stream and the profits it makes are not making individuals rich.

This thread must be a Palace fan's wet dream come true.

Someone in marketing made a mistake, not as big as the one that Oscar made picking Sexy Pete, let's just move on compadres.
