Two of the world’s most prestigious science academies say man made climate change is real

The debate (at least amongst those that actually know what they are talking about) isn't about the science, which, as has been reported ad infinitum, is almost universally accepted as solid, but more along Nibble's line of what can be done about it. The key issue is the speed at which the climate change happens - if it's fast (and man's contribution is rapidly accelerating the pace of it) then it's much harder to adapt to, just in terms of the scale of investment that is required over the given time frame. IMO, that's why it's worth persisting with 'green' measures, because it will buy us more time (as a species and a planet) to adapt to climate change.

It's clear to me that this is a greed argument, the man made "climate change" factor is something of a red herring. It's a red herring that seems to be building quite a case now though.

Some people are happy to rape the planet of all it's natural resources, leaving future generations with nothing.
Some aren't.

Decide which you are.

Capitalism has reduced humanity to a sick race to see who can consume the most in the shortest space of time. Look at fracking if you want evidence of this. Money is the justification for everything and it will be the death of us as a species.

Oh f--k me gently;we are all doomed because of Capitalism.
What a shame we haven't all lived in some kind of socialist utopia and then everything would have been alright.

We're doomed because of human greed. Capaitalism just gave it the optimum environment within which to thrive.

"There is no scientific proof that human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are the dominant cause of the minor warming of the Earth’s atmosphere over the past 100 years. If there were such a proof it would be written down for all to see. No actual proof, as it is understood in science, exists."

"There is some correlation, but little evidence, to support a direct causal relationship between CO2 and global temperature through the millennia. The fact that we had both higher temperatures and an ice age at a time when CO2 emissions were 10 times higher than they are today fundamentally contradicts the certainty that human-caused CO2 emissions are the main cause of global warming."

- Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore

That's a bit like quoting David Icke on goalkeeping.

True dat.

Capitalism has reduced humanity to a sick race to see who can consume the most in the shortest space of time.

Your first point rather negates the second. Space aliens didn't invent capitalism, we did, or rather as you correctly point out some of us did. It's our own greed / desire for progress (delete according to your political beliefs) that got us here. What's more. as Block F points out no one has ever come up with a workable alternative. "Communist" China is now one of the worst offenders because their people worked out they preferred iPads and a Lexus to forced route marches, bans on culture, little red books and famine. I don't blame them. I would too. The USSR was TERRIBLE for the planet, churning out nuclear disasters, fossil fueled power plants and shitty Ladas that everyone had to drive.

Right now there are some awful, awful companies doing terrible things to the planet but there are also some very good ones using financial incentives to try and save it (organic food companies, windfarm and solar panel companies, ethical investors).

Greed may lay at the route of some of the environmental problems but just wanting to exist comfortably is as much to blame. The majority of the world's population would prefer that to Marxism and I'm with that majority.

See post #64. Capitalism is like the petri dish with optimum conditions for greed to thrive. China ceased to be a communist country long, long ago. It's about as communist as it is democratic.

Yep, that's my point and why I put communist in quote marks. Now ask yourself why.....

Quite. The denial is understandable and corporations and governments have ZERO to gain in their lifetime by doing anything about it. Since most large scale money makers only actually think in terms of the period they can actively make money, between 40-70 years they have no interest in sorting it. It's a shambles.
Yep.

What have future generations ever done for ME?

Since he used to be a goalkeeper, I might well quote him on the subject, you tool.

Whoosh.

Because it's something he turned his back on to become a spokesperson for something more nefarious.

In Moore's case, he's now a spokesperson for the nuclear industry and a supporter of the GM crops industry. Dingo chose to be selective in describing Moore, as if that which he chose had any relevance to the point being made today.

All these numpties saying that there is no 'scientific proof' that climate change is man made or even exists need to understand that there is no actual 'scientific proof' of anything really!!

Science cant actually prove anything.

Faith in Science is just like faith in any religion.. you dont need faith to look outside and see whats happening to the world.. and to think that mankind has had no effect on this delicate jewel is just laughable.

We either collectively wake up or we are collectively doomed.

Perhaps he has seen the light.
Nuclear power may keep the lights on when the wind doesn't blow and GM crops may help feed the world's starving population.

I think your point lost credibility at 'delicate jewel'.

Humans are doomed anyway - we may well accelerate that with manmade climate change, but regardless of whether that happens, humans will cease to exist, that is only ever a question of when and not if.

Why on earth would the term 'delicate jewel' make my post lose credibility in your opinion?

If its good enough for Edgar Mitchell, who piloted Apollo 14 and has a masters degree in science, then its good enough for me!

but perhaps you are better qualified to judge his description of earth.

If you say so.
Feel free to ignore the rest of the post though eh?
