I like your style. I love the Northern towns we visit, may or may not want to live there but on a day trip or a weekend I manage to see plenty of good stuff I like and I generally have a good time.

If you’ve an hour to spare when in Sunderland, try their Museum and Winter Gardens (it’s free). Its very close to the station, and a cut above your average municipal museum.

It's got seats, there's a football pitch in the middle. It's basically the same as everywhere else.

I know he got a red card at Scunthorpe in the FA Cup, only time I’ve been there, and no regrets at not returning.

The sending off at Scunthorpe in the cup was Jamie Moralee. Came on as sub, ran to the middle of the pitch, awful tackle, sent straight off.

My opinion, when I was there, was of an identikit stadium. I stand by that.

Was there in 2004. Think we did train to Newcastle and Metro to Sunderland. Ground is right near a station anyway. Decent stadium, but wasn't overly impressed with the area around it. Might have changed in 20 years I suppose. Will aim to be back next season.

Sunderland used to be great for solid old proper pubs but I think it's a shadow of that now. With that in mind I'll be staying in Newcastle for both NE fixtures

Plenty of places to drink within 10 to 15 minutes walk to the SoL, I go into Fitzgerelds which has now changed its name to the Canny Lad. You won't see home fans only signs you can basically go in any pub you like.
