Not 'proper' fans in the way we define them, but you cannot question the individuals loyalty and passion for their clubs, they just vent this in an inappropriate manner. I would not mind betting that the people involved in trouble during the game at the pub were not the hardcore firms of either team, more hangers on.

I was in a lads pub before the Swindon game and only about half a dosen of them actually got on the train to preston park to go and watch the game the rest stayed in the pub.

There is rarely trouble at home games so would be going to Withdean in twos and threes, I know one who goes with his old man. The people who dress up in shitty burberry and mouth off are not lads at all, they are skally hangers on who read a few books and think they are top boys.

I do not condone violence at football and never will. I am merely saying that there are many reasons why people get involved in it and to label them all mindless thugs who do not care about the team is only showing how little you know about the subject.

I agree with that totally, but I don't understand why you would travel to another town with no intention of going within five miles of the ground, even when there were plenty of tickets available, with the sole intention of causing a tear-up. That, to me, just doesn't make sense. Surely if they're fans then they'll want to watch the match like everyone then get up to what they want to do.

I have been supporting the Albion for 20 years so have seen my fair share of football violence and met and talked to some of the people who perpetrate it. I would not chose to have these people as freinds but that does not mean that i dont understand why they do what they do. If some people feel the need to vent a bit of aggresion against each other then so be it.

My point is that what makes them want to beat 10 pounds out of each other is not the passion that they feel for their team, the two things are totally unrelated, football is just the excuse they use to justify it.

Im not saying that in their own twisted way they are not fans of their teams but to suggest that the violence is somehow wrapped up in how strongly they feel for their team is a hugely misplaced perception.

I remember at Euro 96 the police arrested a load of supposed Scottish football holigans. These people all wearing Scottish football shirts later turned out to be part of Milwalls firm!

I was stopped from going into Reading TC. My two boys (aged 9 and 11) must have looked threatening. Guess they had plans to trash the local Reading firm's Burger King!!!!

So THATS why The Swan was shut when we walked back there after the game. I was gagging for a pint after shouting meself hoarse and hiking back over the M4 in sub-tropical temperatures. Typical. A load of bellends kick-off in the town centre, and the rest of us who know how to behave like human beings have to suffer because of the DICKWADS who can't handle their drink.

Just a thought, perhaps one of the groups could of been Swindon fans coming back from Wrexham, changed at Wolverhapmton then Reading and onto Swindon?

Looking at other fixtures the only other team passing through would of been Millwall.
