What might be an interesting poll is where you think we'd be if Coppell had never walked?

Would we be better or worse off than under McGhee. A tough one I think, but possibly we are actually better off under McGhee. The reason I say that is that Coppell made a cunning side out of loan players who inevitably walked when a better offer came along. McGhee on the other hand is getting the best out of youth players and the rest of his current squad which may prove the more successful strategy in the medium to long run.

Adams or McGhee, blimey I'm feeling old if that's all you could think of.

Best manager eh, depends what you mean by "best" ....

Short term - Steve Gritt, I can't believe the turnaround in that 6 months, even now. How did he do that?

Building a team - Adams or Taylor, Adams did an incredible job putting that team together, and look at some of them still there today holding Spurs, no wonder we looked good in the Third. While Taylor put the foundations in place (especially Wardy) for Mullery to take it on.

Success - Mullery. No-one before him, or since has been able to take us into the top flight. He also kept us there, and seriously pissed off Palace fans with the 5 pound notes bit on telly. Marvellous scenes.

Limited resources - however I can't think of anyone who has ever taken a side and been able to get them performing above what we all thought they were capable of, than Mark McGhee is doing right now. He really is doing a fantastic job, with a paper thin squad held together by kids.

'Recent' Gritt23, 'Recent'.

And 3gulls I'd heard that about DK letting Coppell in order to get the compensation, I didn't think he was that astute but clearly I was wrong.

as many of you have said, its incredibly hard to read between the 2. Micky has just edged it for me as it was his signings that got us moving in the right direction. Mcghee though has proved his worth and watching the way we played on Sat makes me very excited for the future of this team. If we can maintain that style we will be safe by easter.

Interestingly Danny Wilson credits Chris Caittlin as one of the best managers he ever worked with/for, as does Alan Curbishley.

Chris Cattlin will always have a very special place in my heart for his radio interview which included the classic "Like all Brighton fans I HATE Crystal Palace and I HATE Portsmouth...". The fact that he was censured for it but made no apology was the icing on the cake.
