Hi all. This is my first ever post on NSC so don't shoot me down, but given where our beloved club are now, I felt compelled to come up with a list of the most influentual people associated with the club over the past 15 years.

On 25 January 1997 we beat Hull 3-0 at the Goldstone which marked the start of 10 wins and 2 draws from the last 12 home games culminating in that famous draw at Hereford. The rest of course is history.

Robbie Reinelt may have scored that equaliser at Hereford but in my opinion the 12 men below have contributed the most to getting our team to where we are today since that day back in early 1997. I've probably missed an obvious name here and there but who would you add/remove from this list?

Steve Gritt
Dick Knight
Martin Perry
Micky Adams
Gary Hart
Charlie Oatway
Bobby Zamora
Danny Cullip
Michel Kuipers
Gus Poyet
Norman Cook
Tony Bloom

Yeah I thought about McGhee but put him in the same bracket as Mayo, Booker, Samarah etc. Can't see how he is any more influential than those already in the list.

Meopham, Kent.
Any such list has to have Reinelt in there.

You start with:
Dick Knight
Paul Samrah - let's not forget HE was the one who uncovered the irregularities in the Memorandum and Articles that Archer had filed, which really started the ball rolling.
Steve Gritt
Robbie Reinelt

and then look for the others.

Don't get me wrong - what Reinelt did ultimately saved the club from total despair and for that we should be forever grateful, but it was a single moment rather than a prolonged spell of contributing continuously to the clubs fortunes. Samrah probably should be in though.

Russell Slade's role should not be ignored.

No great escape = no Poyet

Bit harsh on OGH. The man gave 110% in every match and played in most games in three of the four promotion seasons we had while at the Withdean.

I sort of agree that Hart prob shouldnt be in there. If we are talking influential players love or hate him Leon Knight was a key player in his time here. Gary Hart was no more influential that Mayo, Rogers, Butters etc etc.

What did Gary Hart do apart from sitting on his arse collecting a pay cheque every month ? Didn't score any goals that made a difference unlike say Leon Knight or Adam Virgo
I'd argue that Harty was literally the ONLY player worth paying to watch in the Gillingham years. Top ten? Not 100% sure about that.

You could suggest that Archer, Bellotti and Stanley are up there. Whilst influential for the wrong reasons, we probably wouldn't have our brand new shiny stadium without what they did to our club.

Still a bunch of :wanker:s though

True - but let's focus on the guys who were acting purely in the interests of the club!

But influential ? Never. I was more INFLUENTIAL than him
True. If you hadn't marched TRIUMPHANTLY across the pitch and planted that flag up Dick TIGHT's arse, we'd probably never have hounded him out and still be playing at Withdean with Attilla the WELCHER doing the PA, which would probably have BORED off another 1,000 or so punters from the previous season.

And I hadn't HAVE sat NAKED on top of the CLOCK Tower SINGING 'Dick out' which INSPIRED Tony Bloom to SACK Dick Tight then there would have BEEN no AMEX.
