Beaten by a neck.
11 year old running three miles round a ploughed field with a few hurdles thrown in, and two most recent runs ended Fell and Pulled Up? Not for me Jeff, not even each way at a hefty double figures priceTony's Tango Boy is declared to run tomorrow at Plumpton (15:20) - Will be well worth keeping an eye on the market once the prices become available.
Can't argue with that - 2 horses died racing there last year compared to 5 in 2022 and 8 in 2021Plumpton very much not a ploughed field these days. The grounds staff won grounds team of the year last year. They have really sorted out the drainage and the turf is in brilliant condition now, investment and hard work really paying off. As a member there it has been very much improved in the last ten years or so.
Fair enough, not been there for a while. Think the last time I was there a 66/1 outsider came home in a three mile chase in a field of three, being the last horse left standingPlumpton very much not a ploughed field these days. Seem to recall it was a bit or miss as to whether the trains would stop at Plumpton on raceday. Been on more than one that sailed straight through Plumpton despite being advertised as stopping thereIt's a decent day out now, they've invested in the bars etc.
I've been on more than one raceday train over the years that is advertised as stopping at Plumpton and... just... doesn't...Trains have been stopping ok there for years albeit only one an hour despite there actually being two an hour, the other goes straight through which is ridiculous.
I remember being on one of the old slam door trains in the 90s that didn’t stop so they arranged to stop at Wivelsfield, which it wasnt going to do, and get the next train down to stop and pick us up. Happy days !!I've been on more than one raceday train over the years that is advertised as stopping at Plumpton and... just... doesn't...![]()
I remember cajoling one wheezy old boy who I got chatting to on the train from Lewes across the platform at Haywards Heath because the train didn't stop at Plumpton as advertised. We had about two minutes to make it onto the train back to Lewes which did stop at Plumpton. Only on that train did he confide that he'd only very recently had a serious heart operation and was supposed to be taking things easyI remember being on one of the old slam door trains in the 90s that didn’t stop so they arranged to stop at Wivelsfield, which it wasnt going to do, and get the next train down to stop and pick us up. My mate Mark once had a go on the coconut shy there. Fantastic shot and the coconut flew off. Well the top half did. The bottom half was nailed to its holderI love Plumpton.
Had a very good friend owning a house over the road on the far side, 'next door' to Raymond Briggs.
Never forget the day we went on a family fun day there, backed 6/7 winners and won a big fluffy dog on the stalls. What life is all about.
