Ah! Tw*ts on Tw*tter! Rather different to the fans on fans' forum. Suspect the difference between fans on a fans' forum and fans on Tw*tter is the same for most clubs, ours included.
He's been booed at The Stadium of Light. Are you not counting that either?!

Or blogs?

Not discounting anything. Just read the entries on the fans' forum, that's all. On there, his £200M leaving gift seems to have healed any previous wounds. Maybe tw*ts on tw*tter might have been influenced by that by now?

Anyway, all water under the bridge now - he's our player, and I hope/expect he has a great loan next season (although apparently not possible to Sunderland) and in time becomes a top player for us.

To their credit, they still rather like him - £10M transfer and a £200M sign off. Think he's more likely to go on loan next season rather than break straight into our first team - loan back to them wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, would it?

The Premier League don’t allow clubs to loan players to other PL clubs in the same window the player is signed.

If the club decided he is going out on loan it will be either abroad or back to the Championship.

He can not be loaned back to the club he was purchased from in the same window. So won’t be going there (if anywhere)

He could have been loaned back to Sunderland had they not won yesterday.

Quite a bitter article and he now looks like a mug, given what happened yesterday

Join a much vaunted club that is top 10 in the PL and regularly gives young players game time, how is that bad advice in any Universe? Remembering he signed when Sunderland were a middling Championship club.

Well imo anyway

Edit: disappointed that he didn’t bring up Liam Bridcutt as boo-able as I believe he managed to top of a poll to decide Sunderland’s worst ever player a few years ago!

That might depend on whether Mitoma stays!

Written through red tinted specs I would suggest. He's 19 and has been at their academy since he was 7. He'll be on a better wage than his schoolmates but I doubt it is eye watering money bearing in mind it is Sunderland we are talking about (estimated on some websites to be £1800 a week). As to suggest he would be better to develop at Sunderland is laughable. He's 19 and only played 22 times so what makes them think he will develop there better.

Different author, but same site:

Tommy Watson

This is not a redemption arc, it is not a fitting end to the story, this is Sunderland. This is simply about what it means to be Sunderland, to live it, to breathe it, to love it.

Watson, like all footballers, had detractors. If the people who sit behind me had their way he would never have played for Sunderland again after his move was announced.

It is undeniable that he went through a rough patch of poor form yet there was always a player there. He is a County Durham lad, born and raised, and is a Sunderland fan through and through. From his post about his departure to Brighton to ripping his shirt off as he celebrated his promotion winning goal in the dying minutes, Watson has exuded pride and passion to have been a Black Cat.

Once that passion had been questioned, now those doubts have been put to rest. Watson is a boy with a big break, who has left the club with the ultimate parting gift.

So, it is not a redemption arc for there was nothing to redeem, there is simply a lad who loved the club and has left the shirt in a better place to when he adopted it. For that Tommy, thank you and good luck.
