Wont be in the team when Falmer opens. Standard league 1 material (at best). Prone to too many f***-ups and a lack of pace and strength. Playing well at the moment but i'm still hoping Gus will be looking at the centre-back positions come the next transfer window.

A Mr Poyet said differently yesterday

Has anyone pointed out that it was McNulty's misplaced pass (after a modest period of competent play by Brighton) that set Albrighton on his way? And that he is fast as f***? And that i have a villa mate (brummie and regular to villa park) who creams for albrighton the way we do for bennett when he is on song? so... you know... STFU!

tommy may improve to Championship level, he may not. maybe even further (inb4 'no way'... etc because none of you are pro football coaches btw) so i say give him some credit, he's been playing well and as someone said, is 22 and playing in L1 for an improving defence... and defence is a position where players mature slower, and last longer.

Worthy thread wizard. Lets hope he and the defence plays well in the mudbath up at colchester... and the rest, including mr arismendi... what an intro to life with brighton! ...if he plays!

Tommy

Since when has any footballer been the finished article by the time they have reached only their 3rd season?

Are you seriously implying that the likes of Maldini, Baresi and Blanc never improved their game or ability after they began their 3rd season as a pro??

Or that they never learn't anything new as different coaches with different ideas and techniques came into manage the teams they played for.

A good player should always be looking to learn more and improve.

Christ, as i recall recently Forster after the Villa match said something like 'I have been watching (forgotten exactly who the player was - possibly Rooney) a lot lately and the way he takes his chances, playing the ball back across the keeper, so thats what I tried against Villa for my goal' - So Forster is still learning, improving and adapting his game after how many years?

I fear... your Barrel of Irony-o-meter may be a td faulty...

Judging by your avatar, even if he lost the use of both legs, suffered blindness and chronic insomnia, smokes 80 fags a day and maintained a diet of English gutbuster breakfasts 3 times a day....... You'd still say he's worthy of the captains arm band.

sounds quite familiar!

Elphick has played much better in recent matches but was complete crap for the first half of this season, I mean REALLY bad. I hope he is returning to the form of his first season when he was fantastic. He will always lack pace but I think he is a real confidence player and at the moment, his confidence has returned and he is playing well.

Best game I have seen him play in about 2 years, seriously!! If he plays like he did tonight every game then he is going to be playing at falmer!

I think that it shows that Poyet or Tarrico has stopped them hoofing the ball from the back unless under real pressure and instilled the need to play the ball out of defence through the full backs and midfield.

I watched the DVD of the first half of the season last night, and by christ, one thing that stood out was that Elphick was consistantly absolutely WOEFUL. He wasn't alone in that of course, but time and time again he was getting skinned, giving the ball away, losing his man, losing concentration. A hell of a lot of goals against were unfortunately attributal to Elf.

Thankfully he's returned to form these last few games, and playing in a settled defence is no doubt a massive factor in that.
