Ad they say football is about opinions and I was always taught to stay on your feet as long as possible. Had he stayed on his feet he may have jostled him over for a corner but once he had dived in he was beaten. The only person who would have won a sliding tackle like that was Mark Lawrenson who was brilliant at it.

TLO you should change your last sentence to Albrighton MAY have skinned him.

Elphick was already beaten once he made that tackle. He slid in as a last-ditch effort, so any kind of tackle was needed, but in this case, already forlorn. If he'd have stayed on his feet, Albrighton would have still skinned him.

yeah and if Elphicks attempted lung had connected we'd have recieved a penalty and maybe a red-card. A no win situation for Elphick again, in other words 'limited'

Maybe his poor form was due to not playing alongside natural full backs. Bit of a coincidence that since competent full backs in the form of Painter and Calderon have led to better defensive performances from the back four as a unit. Definite captain potential wears his heart on his sleeve and is passionate about the Albion. In the summer we need to sign a Joel Lynch type player alongside him or maybe even Joel himself!

Good to see that the moany gits are out, my main point really was that when players(not just tommy) are playing badly, everyone calls them shit and gives them a load of stick, so why don't people praise them when they do start playing well? (As Elphick has since Poyet took charge imo_ :glare:

How about we concentrate on the here and now, not the past?

Damn it right you are right.

Well done Tommy, you have played QUITE WELL in the last couple of months. Before that you were horseshit, but thats all in the past now and hopefully you will continue to play QUITE WELL for the remainder of the season, as I am fairly certain you will be fighting for your place in the starting eleven next season if we have even vaguely serious ambitions about going up.

That okay for you, Wizard?

He was already beaten. He got nowhere near Albrighton.

He allowed Albrighton run past him, he was just in front of us and had he stood his ground he would have been guilty of obstruction.

All credit to him he has improved over the last few games and is showing the good signs that he did when he first came into the side.

Judging by your avatar, even if he lost the use of both legs, suffered blindness and chronic insomnia, smokes 80 fags a day and maintained a diet of English gutbuster breakfasts 3 times a day....... You'd still say he's worthy of the captains arm band.

And judging by your post's he must have shagged your wife or something! Poyet watches him in training every day and if he really wasn't good enough, as you say, then Poyet would be looking in the loan marker wouldn't he? I trust a QUALIFIED coach/Multi title winning over some weirdo who has a grudge. thanks all the same though.

I'll pick this thread back up in the morning..I'm hitting the sack.

Still let's go all-out for a 22 year-old in his third season as a pro cos he's clearly the finished article destined to go nowhere in his career.

f*** it, boys - fill yer boots...

Rubbish!

At 22 and in his third season of being a pro, he should know his game and be the finished article by now.

Christ. Maldini, Baresi, Blanc and so on were murdering attackers at that age.

I don't think an unsettled back four helped any of our defenders or goalkeeper earlier this season. Only since we have played a regular line up at the back has our defensive performances improved. We were unlucky it chopped and changed so much earlier in the season, due to injury and suspension, but his definitely affected their form and ultimately our results.

Tommy has been playing well since we have had a settled defensive unit, he played well in his debut season which was only a couple of seasons ago. He is young and still learning and improving his game, it is far too early for some to be writing him off just yet and there is nothing to stop him from playing for us for several more seasons if he continues to improve.

I don't get the need for some people to have a dig at him for making errors - all players make mistakes, whatever level they play at. Tommy hasn't made that many in the context of our season but seems to be getting a lot of stick from some on here - why? maybe its because he is young or they are just impatient, expecting him to be the finished article immediately and do what no other footballer can do, play all game, every game error free?

Or is it anxiety due to the imminent opening of Falmer? they are desperate for Championship football and think that the only way that is possible is by having more 'well known and experienced players' in the side, but that doesn't always work - Livermore and Mcleod for example should have been quality for us but failed to deliver their potentials.

No Elphick didn't get anywhere near my wife, infact he was just that bit too slow and sluggish in getting into a tackle. Weirdo?? you shouldn't talk that way about yourself!. My suggestion to you is to stop dreaming, Elphicks not gonna be your knight in shinning armour! night night x

Tommy can be my knight in shing armour any day of the week - his photos on my office wall are a testiment to that. Oh, sorry, this is a football thread isn't it. I'll be off to bed too then:blush:

:lolol::lolol::lolol:

Since when has any footballer been the finished article by the time they have reached only their 3rd season?

Are you seriously implying that the likes of Maldini, Baresi and Blanc never improved their game or ability after they began their 3rd season as a pro??

Or that they never learn't anything new as different coaches with different ideas and techniques came into manage the teams they played for.

A good player should always be looking to learn more and improve.

Christ, as i recall recently Forster after the Villa match said something like 'I have been watching (forgotten exactly who the player was - possibly Rooney) a lot lately and the way he takes his chances, playing the ball back across the keeper, so thats what I tried against Villa for my goal' - So Forster is still learning, improving and adapting his game after how many years?
