Millwall came to spoil the game and a weak ref let them get away with constant niggly fouls and time wasting. He allowed then to break up play unfairly then re-orginise their defence by blatantly holding up free kicks and throw ins.A cynical, shitty way to play football but it, coupled with the inept ref, earned them a point.

Would playing like that most games keep the fans happy and Lomas in a job? I doubt it very much.

No, you can't book a player for wasting time unless they are trying to gain an advantage.
There is no advantage in football unless you are winning.
Simple maths that can lead to the very annoying situation we had today where a team came wanting a point from the first minute.

Except its completely accurate.

Have you any evidence to back up that comment! The advantage of time wasting when the scores are level is that you get a point from an away game against a team in mid table, something that a team at the foot of the table would be more than happy with. Does that not compute with you?

I'm sure it'll never happen, sadly, because it would mean shortening each half and FIFA will never have the balls to go for it but I think an independent time-keeper would bring a massive improvement to the game. Fans are being screwed over by deliberately unsporting tactics time and again because refs never add on anything close to the amount of time that's wasted by players dawdling around. Run the clock only when the ball is in play and allow refs to retain the right to punish excessive time-wasting as they do now.

The average game with the actual time the ball is in play is about 65 mins so to play with it in play for the full 90 mins would take about 2-3 hours and that is not going to happen.
