Anyone recognise this ??

Un petit d'un petit
S'étonne aux Halles
Un petit d'un petit
Ah! degrés te fallent
Indolent qui ne sort cesse
Indolent qui ne se mène
Qu'importe un petit d'un petit
Tout Gai de Reguennes.

I made up a sort-of-joke while cooking yesterday and would welcome the considered feedback of NSC's resident experts.

"I'm making a brine, but the pesky salt crystals just won't dissolve. C'mon guys. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

Unfortunately it's a sort-of-joke that's been knocking around in chemistry circles for long enough that variants of it are available on t-shirts. Partly because it's what counts as a good science joke.

C'est tres impressionnant qu'il y a tant de gens ici qui comprennent et ecrivent le francais.

But where do you get to do the accents.

But where do you get to do the accents.

If you're using an iPad hold the relevant letter down for a selection of accented alternatives (also works for some of the punctuation buttons).

If you are using a standard key board sometimes alt/shift and alt with the letter will work, I think, if to there are various number codes, if you hold alt and type using the number pad you get the letter. If you open up the character map (start menu, accessories or accessibility or something) you can find the code for every character in a given font. Highlight the character and at the bottom of the character map window is its code.

You can also copy and paste either from the character map, or from someone else's post.

It's very difficult to do a French accent using the written word as opposed to the spoken word. Although you could probably do it if your name was Joey Barton.

Vous n'avez jamais heard of Alt-keys?

Alt-130, pour example, vous donne: é
Alt-133 = à
Alt-135 = ç

Et so on...

Et le plus useful pour moi aujourd'hui: Alt-0128 = €

Thanks - and to ACKER above as well. This is a genuine revelation

If anybody else is trying to make this work, I discovered (found it on google) you have to use the numeric keypad and it won't work with the numbers across the top of the keypad.

C'est bien, ça!
