True, although criticism of the Bumper looks a little less inspired now that both Champagne Fever (1st) and The New One (6th) have gone in from last year's renewal.

Pace in the race was a bit in-and-out but he really scooted away from them. Definite Champion Hurdle contender next year if they go that route.

Cue Card has just enhanced the Bumper's reputation as a source of future Festival winners too...

I think this year it seems a lot of horses with previous festival form are running really well

Perhaps because so many are now prepared solely for the Festival, with only a handful of runs beforehand.

Then that makes the rest of the NH season a farce with 3/4 runner fields chasing big pots or maybe the bad weather this season has stopped the decent/decentish horses running until now ?
