1. Slade is a great talker and says all of the right things when questioned. I can well see how he would have talked himself into a job when interviewed by Bloom. Unfortunately the ‘walk’ didn’t match the talk and I get the impression that Bloom doesn’t suffer fools or impostors.
2. It was obvious after the defeat to MK that the next 5 games in October were critical to his survival. We had an opportunity to get ourselves well out of trouble and into comfortable mid-table with 10 points from 3 fairly easy home and 2 very easy away games. These were just the sort of games we were winning under Slade at the end of last season. Instead, we managed just 5 points.
3. Club directors, senior staff and those close to them pay attention to the opinions posted on NSC. People on here were clamouring for Slade to go by a 2 to 1 majority (over 300 people voted) after the Oldham game, which was unprecedented so soon into the season (Adams wasn’t as unpopular until after Christmas). You can say what you like about the influence that our little itty-bitty message board has, but that won’t have gone unnoticed.
4. Bloom isn’t someone to baulk at making a tough decision (not that this was a particularly tough one) and was certain to act sooner rather than later. I hope he’s got someone lined up, but I don’t doubt we’ll have a new manager in soon – and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone from out of the current picture.
5. Don’t expect this to be the last time this will happen – Bloom has the money to do this time and again if the new manager doesn’t shape up. We are very much in a results business and there must be instant improvement. The only thing the new guy will have in his favour is that he will have been Bloom’s personal appointee – so he might be given a little more time than RS.
