Thoughts on Slade’s dismissal

1. Slade is a great talker and says all of the right things when questioned. I can well see how he would have talked himself into a job when interviewed by Bloom. Unfortunately the ‘walk’ didn’t match the talk and I get the impression that Bloom doesn’t suffer fools or impostors.
2. It was obvious after the defeat to MK that the next 5 games in October were critical to his survival. We had an opportunity to get ourselves well out of trouble and into comfortable mid-table with 10 points from 3 fairly easy home and 2 very easy away games. These were just the sort of games we were winning under Slade at the end of last season. Instead, we managed just 5 points.
3. Club directors, senior staff and those close to them pay attention to the opinions posted on NSC. People on here were clamouring for Slade to go by a 2 to 1 majority (over 300 people voted) after the Oldham game, which was unprecedented so soon into the season (Adams wasn’t as unpopular until after Christmas). You can say what you like about the influence that our little itty-bitty message board has, but that won’t have gone unnoticed.
4. Bloom isn’t someone to baulk at making a tough decision (not that this was a particularly tough one) and was certain to act sooner rather than later. I hope he’s got someone lined up, but I don’t doubt we’ll have a new manager in soon – and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone from out of the current picture.
5. Don’t expect this to be the last time this will happen – Bloom has the money to do this time and again if the new manager doesn’t shape up. We are very much in a results business and there must be instant improvement. The only thing the new guy will have in his favour is that he will have been Bloom’s personal appointee – so he might be given a little more time than RS.

I also feel that being Blloms selection, he will make funds available to this man in January. Bloom has also made it easier for himself to get who he wants, because the new man will be able to bring in his own coaching team. Who was the last manager allowed to do that?

I agree to the letter what Ji D wrote. Listen Sir DL lets get this into perspective Slade will have not a nice pay off, was paid a decent age whilst here and he lost his job. His personal situation is no different to millions of people across the Country losing their jobs at the moment expect perhaps for them it was out of their control. Slade lost his because of his own inadequacies.

Do I feel sorry for him ?. Yes in so far as ANYONE losing their job is sad but he is no more special than anyone else.

Feel a bit sorry for Slade he comes across as a decent honest bloke, He done well to keep us up last season and I'll never forget that but this season he had a different job to do and results proved it was'nt working. Maybe he's just one of those managers who works well on a shoestring budget but give him some money to play with and he does'nt know what to do with it, just as you get managers who need money to be a success? I wish him well for the future and I hope he gets another managers job very soon but this is a new era for the Albion and we need people a class ahead of Slade, White & Booker to move us on.

Does anyone genuinely think Slade joined us without Blooms agreement bearing in mind it has always been his money underpinning the club and not Knights.

I am sorry to see him go but that's football. To be honest, I also doubt that Bloom is that interested in what is said on NSC where 300 people apparently voted to get rid of Slade yet our home attendence is roughly about 5000. Take out of that 300 the amount of opinionated idiots that don't actually go to games and you're probably not left with many. They are bound to argue that they don't go because of the dross but I would be interested to see how many do go when a new manager is appointed or will they just sit at home sharpening the knives again.

Good luck to Russell Slade but, as I think I posted when Wilkins left, The king is dead, long live the king!

Let's be honest, he has had a rotten run of luck with injuries. McNulty and Wing missing for most of the season so far. Defenders who prefer to bath on their own so try to get there early. Murray injured.

There may have been things he would have done differently, such as not sign Navarro let alone put him in the starting 11, but he has been let down by some of the players as well.

He asked to be judged after 12 games. He was. We are going backwards, and as a result he was sacked.

That seems fair enough.

I agree with you here but was not one of the 300 who voted to get rid of Slade. As a "genuine" fan, who attends every home game and as many away matches as I can, I was 100% behind Slade. It is a shame that some of the players were not.

We all got into the "avoid relegation fervour" at the end of last season and the players also did their bit to avoid the embarassment of League 2 and the lack of prestige attached to it. For some of our illustrious players, it was, IMO, merely to ensure that they got paid and secured another contract for a year.

The start of this season saw a lack of passion, desire and respect from a select number of the players that has undermined the manager and put us in this position. I am grateful to Russell for keeping us up last year and wish him well for the future. I am proud to have had him as our manager. I only hope that others do not have to hang their heads in shame at this point.

I would say the knee-jerk reaction was back in May. He had only kept us up, not got us promoted.

I am gutted for Russ , he was an honest chap.No one more than me wanted him to be a success and to lead us out at Falmer.
I wish him all the best but it just hasnt worked out for him. With the investment by TB we really need to be in a better league position .
Lets hope we make the right appointment.

If you say that the BHA total electorate is 30,000 (about the number we took to the playoff final) then 300 is 1 percent. This is a very high figure for an opinion poll - if Mori or Gallup had one of the same size before a General Election they would need to poll over 450,000 people.

Moreover, it was the huge percentage against Slade that was key to this. A 2 to 1 majority is huge in anyones eyes and can effectively discount any attempt at sabotage by a few 'anti's' - and Bloom is no fool. He knew then that he would have the bulk of the support with him.

And don't be swayed by the 'this board isn't representative of the true fans' argument. It very much is - we have as many middle-aged, middle-class professionals on here as schoolkids, students and layabouts. Just because you're over 40 doesn't mean you can't find NSC.

Whenever Jim D says anything or posts anything, please listen/look carefully.

He makes a lot of sense. He loves the Albion as much as anyone can, and has probably driven ( with a load of us pissheads in the back) enough away miles to circumnavigate the earth.

I give you Jim D
