Villa will still spend big. But we won't sell to them

Everton I doubt it, they'll be ploughing serious cash into the new stadium

City and Chelsea will spend big, yes. Their owners are well insulated from the real world. But if one does get Haaland, it will be hard to spend more even for them. He would be over £100m

But generally I think the transfer economy will be badly hit. Which is good. Both from the point of view that the chances of us keeping our best players are much higher than they would ordinarily be and from the point of view that inflation in football can't keep spiralling out of control

I don’t expect Villa to buy Brighton players.

Everton, let’s see. They have a billionaire owner, backed by his mate Usmanov who’s worth $22.6b. Spending more than each of Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs in the last few years. Despite their true income being a tiny fraction of theirs. I think they’ll cheat again.

They would buy him because he is already a homegrown fully capable PL player with a very high likelihood of turning into a great one. If they pay £45-50m they probably get him now, wait a year and it could be Maguire numbers.

You think so? I look at him and his positioning is good, he reads the game well and he’s good on the ball but he lacks two key attributes to reach the very top as a centre half - pace and physical presence.

We always get to this point where we’re discussing which players will possibly be sold from our present squad. If Bissouma goes it’ll have to be a massive bid, but in truth he’ll learn more & be a better player staying with the Albion, unless of course he goes to City. If I was discussing selling it wouldn’t be our present starting players. I’d say get rid of the hangers on, Ali J, Locadia and others in that category, what’s the point of selling our better players, we’ll just have to replace them and spend loads in doing so to become the same team we’re already becoming. We need stability, with a couple of good tweaks we’re on our way to advancing up the table.

Absolutely.
It's now harder to get players out than in.
And we have a lot to get out.

Year long loans for a lot of them might be the best option.

Call Chris Hughton.

Bissouma would be a big loss but feel that he wants the move. Just seems to not be as smiley as he was earlier in the season. Pretty sure we turned down a bid in January and he now wants away.
In the first half Shelley was running towards goal and Yves just somehow got the ball off him when I thought it was impossible without fouling him. His strength, and ball playing skills obviously have been noticed by others. I expect we’ll want northwards of £40m though. Can only see Arsenal in the reckoning as others like Chelsea and Liverpool will have bigger targets.

Let’s get Welbeck on another contract too while we’re at it.

I can see Webster being sold as well as Bis and White if the right money comes up.

However we have Clarke and Roberts looking good, I expect Clarke to be starting next season

No way Jose!

Potter really likes to have left footers on the left and right footers on the right. We won’t sell two right footed CBs & replace them with the two left footed CBs you quote.

Roberts needs a Championship loan and has probably realised that he needs to follow a White-style loan apprentice scheme to be in with a chance of breaking into our 1st team.

However, I think Clarke will replace Webster or White if we can get £50m+ for either.

That will mean we have 3 right footed CBs in Veltman, Dunk & Webster/White plus two lefties in Burn and Clarke. Great balance.

I also suspect we’ll get a top top LB with the £100m+ from the CB and Biss. Joel’s mate at Ajax Nicolás Tagliafico seems the perfect pick with Pröpper going the other way to off-set the fee. If we could then nick Edouard for £15m (1 year left on contract) from the failure that is Celtic; I think we’re looking at our best season ever.

So why wouldn't we then hang onto him and we can get the "Maguire numbers"?

TB knows what he is doing

Personally I think the January transfer window was a pretty good portent of what is to come in the transfer market.

Usually, 8 or 10 clubs are spending big. This summer I think 2 or 3 will. Arsenal and Liverpool won't be among them.

Could be a lot of reasons to sell White in the summer. TB/the club might feel it needs money right now (FFP) in order to be able to invest or not make massive losses.

Could also reason it is better to sell one CB this summer and one the next summer instead of replacing two CBs the same summer.

As you say, TB will sort it. But I definitely expect at least one big sale in the summer, it would help the financial situation and almost equally important it would show that Brighton is a great pathway to the biggest clubs.

As for Arsenal/Pool you might be right but I thought so last season as well and they both ended up spending £70m+.

27 year old Partey was £45m to Arsenal and unproven in the EPL and then N’Dombele (same age as Biss) was £63m to the Spuds and also unproven in the EPL.

I think Biss has a higher value than both, especially if it’s Bloom your dealing with.

Look to the transfer amounts of Wan Bissaka & Maguire for the sort of fee our owner would want which would be in between those two fees one would guess. There’ll hopefully be a bidding war which should really help our cause, especially if Real Madrid pitch in.

Ostigard miles ahead of Robert’s in the pecking order and doing really well in the championship.. Can see him being an important squad player if Webster moves on but don’t think that will happen.

I suspect of all the players not out of contract Ryan will be off. If he is happy at Arsenal it's a no brainer.
But yeah, we know Duffy is on 40-50k. After this year who'd touch him?

Could see West Ham being interested actually. Shane just needs the right system to play in. Will be interest for sure I reckon if the transfer fee is sensible.

I’ll be amazed if Tony Bloom doesn’t want to start to see some returns on player investment even if to re invest where we clearly need it. None of us would have valued Bissouma much over £20m at the start of the season and now he’d command over £50m with options to replace him already at the club.

We clearly don’t have money to spend on decent transfers as things stand so as hard as it is to see good players go sometimes it’s for the greater good.

I really hope so- we all know in the right team he is a great player.

I think that it is important that we don't stand in the way of player's moves to top 6 clubs. Doing so will hinder our recruitment in the future.

So if any big clubs come in for Bissouma, White, Lamptey (doubt it with his injury record this season) or anyone else we need to honour the trust.

if we do get silly money for someone then perhaps we can gamble a little on an expensive striker. I would like to see Maupay upgraded.

Then I think we need some cover in the wingback positions as cover for Solly and Lamptey. I see Veltman as centre back cover and although he has been doing a job as right wingback I think we need someone more specialist - See also Burn as left wingback.

Of course what I think matters not but it may be an exciting off season.

My other worry is that people are starting to ask questions about Potter - What would he achieve with the right players? etc

At football yesterday a few of my Spurs supporting teammates were agreeing that he might be worth a punt to replace Jose.

Perhaps this kind of talk will force Tony's hand to do some business and give him the forwards he requires. - Not suggesting that some blokes talking before a game in St Lenoards, Australia will change Tony's mind, although you never know. As a mildly interesting aside one of the blokes reckons his grandfather was responsible for scouting a certain Chris Hughton for Spurs.

Surely we can at least try and convince our players to stay here over moving to West Ham or Leicester?

West Ham certainly, I haven't accepted them as a top 6 side yet. It would be fairly typical for them to qualify for Europe this season and then get relegated next season. Although I do concede Moyes is doing a good job. I think we probably have to accept that Leicester are a quality outfit these days though.

Having said that I would hope that we are trying to convince our best players to stay no matter the bid. I just don't think we should be blocking moves to big clubs (like Leeds :lolol::lolol:)

Roberts? The lad who can't get a game at bottom of the table Rochdale ahead of a loan player we had in League 1 more than ten years ago?

He might eventually be good, but not for us yet.
