These are the world's most livable cities for 2015

Ditto Galway which is also technically a city and has great walks, bars and restaurants, lovely houses and a very lively summer calender. In fact Galway and Salthill reminded me together of Brighton and Hove.

People have mentioned UK and Italy but I think the absence of Irish cities is weird too. Dublin is a great place for partying but I really like Galway too and Cork is a great city (if you don't mind the strange accent and are prepared to forego the Guinness)

Clearly they didn't factor in earthquakes. Tokyo could lose its livability in a hurry.

In the years I've lived here there have been hundreds of Earthquakes and none bar the one in tohoku have had any effect on the city. Even the Tohoku one didn't do any damage to Tokyo. It would take an absolute monster of a quake, right under the city, for Tokyo to be seriously put out by an earthquake.

True enough.

I just wonder what these "livability" rankings are measured on. On culture, food, technology, shopping, public transport, safety / lack of crime it's got to be the best place in the world. But not everyone can deal with living outside the centre in a tiny apartment, having their office building sway a couple of times a month or not seeing the sun in mid summer.

Do they still do beer, coffee and fags in vending machines? God, those were good.

Cork's okay but Dublin does little for me.

Yeah, the vending machines still vend the daily essentials. There used to be one that sold porn mags not too far from my house. I guess the internet has done that one out of business.

As for what they measure livability on I have no idea. I was talking to a friend about this result and he said that Monocle magazine has a hard on for Japan and Scandinavia which probably explains it. It surely explains Fukuoka being in there...

They've got it right about London. Beautiful parks and the Thames is lovely but central London is claustrophobic, overcrowded and manic with a poor transport system.

Brazillia , Hong Kong , Johannesburg........that list is hen's teeth..!

London's transport system is improving. However it is complex, confusing, illogical and opaque. Get to know it and you'll save a fortune if you go there often. There are so many interesting places you can discover which are rarely publicised. It has obvious faults but the path to true love is not always easy. Other cities throughout the world will try and seduce you but at the end of the day you'll struggle to have a deep and meaningful relationship with them, because it's often just flashy show.
