Before this season people said Lennon's final ball was his weak link but improved no end this season so would have him ahead of Walcott. Walcott is better than SWP though. Walcott scares the shit out of defences when he runs at them

No chance , Lennon can beat a defender and he also has a good end product unlike Walcott who can't beat a defender and has no end product .

I agree - Walcott is rather frustrating.

I'd still take him tho and use as an impact sub when needed. I still remember his hatric in Zagreb - if he can get back to that form he'll be quality

Yeah agreed , but hasn't looked anywhere near as good as that since Zagreb .

Walcott has a goal threat that lenon doesn't. If Theo had the chance that Lenon did in the first half he would have tucked it away. With the lack of goals from the strikers the wingers will need to chip in with a few.

Lennon is almost EXACTLY the same as Walcott, possibily very slightly better. I would take Lennon as an impact sub and use him just as that, he just isn't good enough if we seriously want to challenge for the world cup.

only better if you want a player that can run at defences with nothing else. SWP offers alot better all round game, can go round players, puts in decnt crosses, plays inteligent passes, covers alot ground and tracks back. likewise Lennon offers more than simple pace, can beat a man with dribbling, play short passes, one-twos, his crossing has come on and he covers the whole wing well.

i think decent defenders will back off Lennon enough to let him run down the line, where his potential is limited. luxury player who dont even think will be effective.

There seems to be this new catchphrase coming out - "he's not good enough if we want to win the world cup". I'm sorry, but yes he is - but not if he's our best player. Most world cup winning teams will have 2 or 3 players that aren't at the same level of the rest, but do a decent job.

Theo Walcott thrives in certain conditions. In a counterattacking game he is phenomonal where there is plenty of space for him to run onto a ball, whereas a tight game played around the edge of the box he falls quite short of making an impact.

He has a few more tricks to his game than people realise, he can cut inside and produce a very nice shot that is hard to stop. Not a powerful shot, but well directed.

Note that in every single game Walcott has played, England have won.

When Walcott had the ball Japan had three players on him, other players need to exploit the space this creates also Walcott and Lennons pace will only be of use if the ball is moved quickly on the counterattack as pointed out by previous posts,in a tight game Joe Cole is a better option.

if it were down to me, which it's obviousy not, I'd take Wright-Phillips ahead of either Walcot or Lennon, but then I'd have Joe Cole in from the start too....

I don't think Walcott has improved from when he was a Southampton. All about pace, which can be a good thing but I wouldn't want to have to rely on him producing to get a result.

I agree. I would also add that moving to Arsenal may not have been the best thing for Walcott. If he had stayed at Southampton for an extra year he would have been playing week in week out and no matter how good a coach Wenger is supposed to be this would have made him a better player. He stil does not seem to have any idea what to do during a game.

All this being said though I would still take him. Against the top sides I feel he will be more effective as they will actually attack us. Leaving more space for Walcott to run in to. The lesser nations tend to sit back and Walcott does not have the skill to get through packed defences.

Here lies the rub, if he had stayed at Southampton he would definitely have played week in week out, whereas Wenger initially used him sparingly and allowed him to develop as a player. What we forget was that at Southampton he was still a schoolboy, Arsenal signed a kid in real terms, something that Wenger has done on a regular basis...look at Fabregas, now regarded as one of the best players in the World. My belief is that if Theo is going to cut it with the best in the World then Wenger is the manager to bring it out of him...which doesn't really answer the question about whether he should go to the World Cup.

In making a choice between him and SWP, I would probably take him for his blistering bursts of pace over the final ball of SWP...if only for the fact that the temperment of some of our opponents means he is more likely to draw a foul and earn a free kick in a dangerous position.

I think walcott's best games have been through the middle rather than the wings, the croatia game states he has massive potential but also still young.I would take him to the world cup:clap:
