Forgive my ignorance (more of a Reading festival man myself), but has Glastonbury always been headlined by "legends" (to use the polite phrase), as opposed to the biggest bands of the day? Seems to have gone that way in recent years. Not a criticism of any of them as such (esp not Springsteen who was awesome), but I always thought Glastonbury was meant to be a festival of current music.

More of a case of older people sticking with what they know. Most people prefer the stuff they heard in their formative years, then put music on the back burner as their life gets busier. I'm sure there is lots of music that would appeal to the oldies, if they just gave it a chance.

Good point well made but you have to honest and say there is a complete load of shit out there today. Most decent blues based rock music has been done I'm afraid, the only new bands that I listen to basically take whats been done before and re-hash it well.

I went to see a band called The Answer at the Concorde 2 the other night, all in their twenties but sounded like a mix of Led Zed, AC/DC and Aerosmith. You've heard similar riffs a million times before but the formula works with Les Pauls, Marshall amps turned up to 11 and a screaming lead singer.

Glastonbury has always been a mixture of current, nearly old and old bands/artists. You get a complete range including World music, Arabic Music, Jazz, Celtic music, Folk etc. I would agree that commercial pop does not get much of a look in but there are other events that cater for that. Glastonbury is not just a music festival, it includes Circus, Mime, Kids Zone, Crafts amongst others. Started in 1970 by Marc Bolan. Why not come along next year . i think you will love it. Something for everyone.

Smells like bullshit. The Who headlined in the oldies slot in 2007.

The Stones are an outside chance for a Fri/Sat slot, but then so are U2, RHCs etc... I doubt even Eavis knows rights now.

Bands/act booked well in advance. 40 years old next year and there will be alot of acts playing who have played over the last 40 years. I think that the organisers know who they want for next year already

Eavis might know who he wants, but that doesn't mean the headliners are signed.

I'll happily bet £50 that The Who will not headline the Pyramind Stage on any night next year.

The Stones doing Glastonbury has been talked about for years but they would have to take a massive pay cut.

None of the big bands play for their full rate at Glastonbury. This is well known.

The Who played two years ago and closed the festival with an awful song about a cup of tea. It was pathetic and it's time they called it a day.

I was at the Glastonbury press conference last Sunday and Eavis said he was in touch with 5 bands about headlining next year. 2 (or maybe 3) had played before but not for a while..and the others had never played before. I got this first hand and it would seem to rule out The Who.

My money's on Radiohead being one of the headliners.

Good call.

Whilst they continually make excuses for not playing Glasto I think U2 might turn up next year.

Spoke to my good friend Roger Daltrey this afternoon and he informs me that
The Who will be playing at Glastonbury next summer. Strong posibility that The Rolling Stones will be the headline act on the final night. It might be a bit Too Middle class for some people though.

Headliners officially announced last week: U2, Muse and Stevie Wonder

Any news on The Rolling Stones and The Who then, The Uninvited Guest?

The Who, as anyone who saw ahem at the Brighton Centre a couple of years ago, still put on a terrific show. Might be getting on a bit now, but I'd still rather see them rather than say lady gaga
