Spoke to my good friend Roger Daltrey this afternoon and he informs me that
The Who will be playing at Glastonbury next summer. Strong posibility that The Rolling Stones will be the headline act on the final night. It might be a bit Too Middle class for some people though.

You weren't in Scats Country Store by any chance? The Two AND The Stones - bit old school to be headlining for the average Glastonbury attendee I would have thought.

Why don't they retire? What's left of them.

Whilst there are enough mugs willing to fight for expensive tickets, and there do seem to be plenty, to watch has beens try and relive their youth, why should they?

Both great bands in their heyday, but unlike Neil Young they haven't moved with the times or the music..like you I can't understand why people want to see old men playing tired old songs but

Smells like bullshit. The Who headlined in the oldies slot in 2007.

The Stones are an outside chance for a Fri/Sat slot, but then so are U2, RHCs etc... I doubt even Eavis knows rights now.

The Who and The Stones still sell out concerts. Class never fades. Why do so many of todays bands sample old songs. You find alot of young people buying CDs of old acts. I listen to alot of new bands/artists because I keep an open mind when it comes to music because that way I won't miss out. Glastonbury has always been a festival for old and new acts. The reason why Bands such as The Who, The Stones, Bad Company, Neil Young, ACDC and many others keep touring is because there is still a massive market for their music. Listen to some of THE OLD FOGIES and you might be pleasently surprised

The music stands the test if time because it IS class but it is young people's music and watching a 60+ Jagger prancing around on stage is a tad embarrassing and Daltrey's voice is not what it was (imo like) so I can't see that I'd be pleasantly suprised. Maybe it's because in my youth the Stones and the Who were the dog's danglies that I feel like this about it.

Well there are 2 good reasons for why old bands keep going, 1, there is a market for it, 2 todays bands do not apeal to us oldies, did not 20 million people apply for Led Zep renunion tickets in 2007 ?, what band in the last 20 years would attract that many applications ??

I have seen the The Who play 15 times and always give a good show, never been a Stones fan after seeing them once, not in the same league as Who, Zep, Neil Young.

I watched loads of Glastonbury this year and the highlights for me were Neil Young, Madness, Specials and loved Lady Gaga as she is crazy, but as for the other bands, did not do it for me, also thought Blur were awful, no passion, just looked like they were there for the money.

More of a case of older people sticking with what they know. Most people prefer the stuff they heard in their formative years, then put music on the back burner as their life gets busier. I'm sure there is lots of music that would appeal to the oldies, if they just gave it a chance.

The Stones doing Glastonbury has been talked about for years but they would have to take a massive pay cut.
