As I mentioned on the main thread, we sat in the car for over an hour, and with about 15 mins to go til kick off, we gave up as we were still on A27. Would have been lucky to see any of the first half... We'd done about 8 miles in an hour, including being at a complete stop for a bus of Newcastle fans with a blown out tyre...

Why in gods name didn't someone think to use their brains and move back the cones and use the hard shoulder so two lanes could be "made". A bank holiday weekend, where trains aren't running, and they couldn't put any brain power to it to think people might want to actually GO SOMEWHERE!!! Just bonkers...Nothing will change though, it never does..

We came home and watched the rest on TV. About an hour ago I saw one of the regular buses come down our road, around 1.5 hours late...

Getting to the Amex is usually pretty bad, but this is the last straw for me...Not sure I'll bother again...I love the Amex and the game, but the diabolical travel is now outweighing all of that...
Totally agree. We gave up our season tickets for exactly this reason.

I agree I was late but that was due to prior commitments and a 40 minute drive that normally takes 20 mins
It’s unfortunately the case that getting to the stadium is getting a real pain in the a***. I left the house in Shoreham to get the Nr 2 bus early today and it was just taken out of service. The first Spring holiday weekend with a home game and the start of the Brighton Festival: roadworks on the main road and no west coast trains. You couldn’t make it up!

Left Burgess Hill 12:30 and got to the Amex 13:10. Initial queue at 23/27 junction opened up after lane closure and no queue on the Falmer slip.

30 min delay back after so, annoying but nothing compared to some of your experiences.

Only 1 more of these to go
If coming from Burgess Hill wouldn’t Ditchling Beacon / Ditchling Road / Coldean Lane be an option?

Thought I’d be clever and book Brighton Uni P&R to avoid buses going on A27. Driving through Hove and the road is shut at Dyke Road /Highcroft Villas (by the Tesco garage) so can’t get passed the railway line that way. Then from Seven Dials down to Preston Circus there’s road works and temporary traffic lights. Add in general bank holiday traffic, railway replacement buses using that route too and it took ages. Though still quicker than EDF from seeing on here. Once parked at Brighton Uni the bus was really quick.

Blissfully easy for me today.
A late and cunning change of plan meant I drove the family to stanmer park, had a nice walk and a picnic, loaded kids back in car, kissed missus goodbye, sauntered over to stadium totally unaware of any travel chaos.

Pretty bad for us on the way in but the way out was worse. Managed to escape the uni car park with no queues only to get stuck for an hour on the A27. I hope the twats in the Stanmer Park lane who exacerbated it by skipping the queue then attempting to barge in get mildly inconvenienced in the near future.

My mate I sit with gets the ST from Burgess Hill and that was his experience going to the ground. So, when I heard a mate was stranded on the A27 I was a little surprised. Seems a breakdown on the single lane section scuppered a lot of people’s first halves.

Train from Brighton and back was ok today but coming home I went back to the stand around 4.50 as there wasn’t a train due for 30 minutes and then there were 3 coming straight after each other.

All in all there was Brighton Festival, a seaside bank holiday weekend, a music event at Waterhall and a Premier League game against a fanatical fan base. That there wasn’t a joined up travel plan is scandalous. Instead of P&R along the single carriage A27 there should have been shuttle buses from town.

How did you get home? Was it similarly “blissfully easy”?

The last two home matches I have decided to go back to catching the train from Brighton Station, and to be fair they have been excellent. Things have not been helped today by the trains shutting from Worthing to Brighton and extra bank holiday weekend traffic.

I think the P&R will be chaos until the A27 returns to normal and the Racecourse reopens with full parking. Still just Liverpool to endure now.

In brilliant timing the works finish roughly around the same time the season ends. And roughly when the unis stop teaching. They so should have done the works in the summer when there’s a lot less traffic.

No, as you ask, I got a coach from a brilliant pub in Patcham (where I used to live), but as I'm nearer 80 than 70 years old, made the decision to cancel my season ticket as of now.......was an emotional afternoon for me !
I’m sure, sorry we couldn’t win.
Bet that was a difficult decision
Did better than me 😃
