For me to say I live in "Sussex" has always been instinct and practice. I guess it depends on age, and a bit maybe on sporting interests, but presumably there are plenty of people who do use the "East" and "West"...? We could have a poll of NSCers...?

I think I us both. I often say I was born in Sussex, but will also say, from Portslade, Brighton, East Sussex, as that was part of the postal address.

Thanks Sussaxon, I love maps, and that is a particularly good one.
I was born a Middle Saxon, but am a long time resident of South Saxon.
I love the oddities of the Sussex borders.

About a third of Tunbridge Wells is in Sussex. Lovely stuff especially when Sussex play Kent at cricket in TW.

Yes, Kent play some of their games at the Nevill Cricket Ground right next to the county boundary. You literally walk out the ground turn right and you're back into Sussex!!!!

I always understood that Lewes is the County Town of Sussex and Chichester is the County Town of West Sussex. Live and learn.
