Nearly £1m over 30 years ago...my goodness. If I remember rightly, the first £1m transfer was Trevor Francis circa 1979 and the market didn't move much between then and Lawro's transfer. Good job Bamber got involved otherwise Mullers would have flogged him for half that amount!
Very quickly established himself in Europe's most successful team and formed best centre-back partnership in British football, by miles.
What would he have been worth today....rough guideline from that Liverpool side......

Rush.........£50m ( Better than Torres )
