one thing i will say about the swan..they do great food in there at nice prices, johns not a bad guy if you know him, i mean he s like a lot of the locals and me and many others o0n here, if we lived in a peaceful village for donkeys yrs and a football club came along with proposals for a stadium then we would be up in arms...its a case of ..not on our doorstep wherever you live !!!

Interesting the villagers might be up in arms about a football stadium... but not a sodding great big trunk road which splits their village in half.

Anyone who tells me Falmer is 'peaceful' is going to get a short snort of derision back from me.

your right there..my relative lives in east street, and the noise from the traffic is constant ..24/7 365 days a yr....so no, hardly peaceful, there are so many villages that are not all that peaceful, take ditchling, its got traffic running through it from all angles !!!

Actually, to be honest, when you're sitting in the garden at the Swan you hardly notice the road. It's in that cutting so the traffic isn't exactly whizzing past the door and the fact the road is effectively below ground level and also screened by trees means that most of the noise is removed.

So actually yes, it IS pretty peaceful!:)

EDIT: And certainly compared to Ditchling!

I'll drink in Lewes, there's a few decent Harvey's pubs within 5 minutes of the station and then a 5 minute train ride to the ground.

edit: oh, and the swan is a bit shit, too...
