The only time I heard McGhee shout today...

But if McGhee got uncharacteristically animated yesterday, this could just as easily have sent out a message to the players that they were in for a collective bollocking.

Result ... they might have played to avoid making mistakes. The exact opposite of what's needed when a team is 2-0 down.

They did need a bollocking - they needed to be to be shown it wasnt good enough.

Fair point Lord B.

I do not want a manager to rant and rave for the sake of it, that is not what I was suggesting.

It just would have been nice to see a slight reaction to the nightmare that was going on on the pitch.

It's all about timing, though.

I don't think there is anyone on NSC who believes that the best time for McGhee to tell players they are useless is ...

... in public, anytime the thought crosses his mind.

He gave a reaction though, it's called despair.

If you look at photos of the England bench when they won the World Cup Richie you will see that the players are going bananas and there is one miserable fucker in the middle who looks as if someone has just burnt his bacon sandwich..........his name, Alf Ramsey.

Without Oatway in the team I think we lacked a leader. Someone to turn to when the chips are down and drag them out of it by the scruff of the neck.

Hammond tried his best to do this but I cannot help thinking some of the players would have been looking to McGhee for instructions of something.

To just stand there for 90 minutes with your arms folded or hands in your pockets was pathetic.

What a very good post Richie, that new haircut has given you wisdom beyond your years.

Yes, it's always a shock when you go from long to short, especially this time of year. I used to have long curly hair and then I decided to shave it all off and I thought I was going to die the first time I went out. You get used to it though and it makes your ears double-hard.

Perhaps if our support was'nt so pathetic he'd get more motivated, it does'nt help when 6000 people sit there in complete silence for 90 minutes.

But when you know with almost absolute certainty that you have lost the match after only 5 minutes, it is a tad difficult to motivate oneself into cheering a team who don't currently have a snowballs chance in hell of overcoming a 0-2 deficit.

Team play well = supporters cheer = team keep playing well
Team play crap = supporters sit in silence = team keep playing crap.

Bit of a chicken/egg scenario.

I think watching Brighton is the football equivilent of beating yourself on the back with birch.

True, very true. The tragic thing is that me and my brother both admitted yesterday that we look forward to the burgers and fresh air more than anything else these days.

I thought things could not get worse until the guy two rows behind me started shouting "How many times ref" everytime anything happened.

Right - my thoughts on yesterday, McGhee etc.

1. Players started badly - Butters missed his first header, misjudging the bounce on a CRAP pitch. Goal from the corner - possible foul on Henderson but who was marking the goalscorer?

2. Adam f***ed up for the second - should never have played a short ball when he did. Probably his poorest game for a while yesyerday along with Chippy. Think Henderson went down too early making the finish easier than it might otherwise have been.

3. Gatting - pleased he was given the chance - however MM says in the week that Lynch can't play at Blackburn and yesterday - yet he does that with Gatting? No logic there I'm afraid. Or was Lynch just 'rested' in other words dropped? If he was then IMO that was wrong - and yes iwas at Coventry. Reid should be playing in the MIddle of Midfield.

4 Can't afford to have Carole and Frutos both in the team at the moment. Our midfield are simply being overrun.

5. Change the sysyem - Butters and McShane are being caught too much. I would put Hinch in the Middle of a3 man central defence - with Lynch and El Abd as the 2 wing backs (or possibly even OGH at wing back and El Abd in the middle if Hinch isn't fully fit)

My team for Norwich (leaving Hammond out) would be

Henderson

Butters/McShane/Hinch Central Defence

Lynch/El Abd Wing Backs

Chippy and Reid Central Midfield with Carole if fit just in front of them.

Gatting and CKR up front.

I'd give Gatting a run of a few games - his confidence is high - could have nicked one at the end.

6. Don't understand why CKR wasn't given 10/15 minutes yesterday - we might as well have lost 3 or 4 1 - we needed to score but he leaves our leading scorer on the bench.

7. Subs - why the f**k do Robinson and CKR spend their time pissing about with the ball boys and playing in the sandpits rather than watching the game? Surely they should be watching to see how the defenders that they be playing against defend - what are their strengths and weaknesses.

8. Set pieces - we are CRAP - the Youth team take better free kicks. What do the players do in training?!

9. We can't afford to sack MM and he won't walk, so talk of who will replace him is bollocks.

10. 5 wins would do it but where they will come from is anyones guess.

...was when he told me to f*** Off.

All the McGhee defenders always point to the man's passion. There was not much passion on show today. He looked like a cardboard cut out of Sven Goran Eriksson on the side today.

There is not plan B. He does not know how to influence things by changing tactics and his body language and apathy gave the look of a man resigned to relegation.

oh f*** OFF
