The OFFICIAL World Cup Final Thread

Kinky Gerbils said:
Wonder if there is any truth in the rumour about the clubs being pardoned if Italy won the World Cup?

No truth whatsoever - Fabio Capello is hoovering up all these Italian players for Real as we speak, Juve are certainly going down, the other clubs might be given the benefit of the doubt.

Well done Italy and their penalties were superb.

As much as I wanted France to win Italy were the better team and had a nice easy path to the final.

Tragic end to Zidane's career, it should be remembered he was the finest player of his generation however it appears that when you are blessed with a talent there are always extremes.

Nice to see the French manager in full-on tantrum mode, and to hear all the self-righteous cheese-eating surrender monkeys silenced after the penalties. Will be even better when they are forced to realise that the retiring superstar has left his mark on world football with possibly the gayest headbutt ever witnessed on a football pitch.

Bridge of the nose, not bloody sternum you prat!

Seriously, shame that Zidane is leaving with as his abiding memory.

General concensus is that Juve may disappear as a result of the court actions, they will be unable to exist financially. Italian football is going to be a shambles after this.

Can you imagine what the English press would do if an England player that had one that? Absolute carnage I reckon. Makes the Rooney incident look tame in comparison.

I have to say that although I've supported Italy throughout this tournament, my one nag of conscience has been the presence of Materazzi, who is a deeply, deeply unpleasant character.

I don't want to think what he said to Zidane to make him do something like that :nono:

Congrats to Italy who I think are deserved winners over the tournament once the best team Argentina went out, but there is a little bit of a sour taste here.

Zidane, I don't think he did lose them the game, it was very unlikely that France would have scored in the last 10 minutes.

Maybe not, but he would certainly have taken a penalty.

To be honest I dont think it would have been much, like I said earlier ZZ has always had a twisted side.

ZZ might turn out to be a hero yet - but only if the Italian player said something outrageously racist. Cos Zidane had already had a run-in with France's far-right on the way to the final.

Fingers crossed, but could yet turn out to be a defining Cantona-style Kung-Fu moment

Looking forward to hearing what he DID say, must have been pretty spectacular to get that response. I can't think of anything that would provoke me into a headbutt, live on telly, on my retirement match, in a world cup final!

Especially one that was so poorly delivered!

I was just thinking I'll pay a quick visit before tucking up and I KNEW that you would say that, just to disagree with everyone else!

What does it matter a f*** what was said! ZZ has been around at the top level for about twenty years I can guarantee he's heard worse than whatever Matterazzi said tonight.

Not sure about that - Juve are a huge club and they will recover quite quickly. They have been planning for a few months now for the worst-case scenario. The Agnellis will never see the club disappear, nor will there 14 million fans across Italy - they are in effect Italy's second national team.

The result tonight also demonstrates that the scandal will have little long term or indeed short term impact on football in Italy, it's a religion in that country.

Both Juve, Milan and Lazio will be back in Serie A in two years, and probably Fiorentina too. It will be like nothing has happened - pencil in the next corruption scandal for 2014.

Stop talking shit, it's a genuine opinion - Materazzi is an animal. If you care to do a bit of research on his record, you will know why.
