They'll be talking for years to come about whatever possessed the organisers to play Tony Christie's 'Is This The Way To Amarillo?' at the end of extra time

Stop talking shit, it's a genuine opinion - Materazzi is an animal. If you care to do a bit of research on his record, you will know why.

How am I talking shit? I came on here knowing one person would be trying to justify what he did. And I was right!

With Fern no doubt :lolol:

At least spell her name right old man.

I suppose "Hilarious" is the wrong word, but you REALLY are asking for trouble driving past a pub full of french, beeping your horn and waving ya Italian flag 5 minutes after winning.

LI once again preaches his opinions to us.

What?

I'm giving my opinion, not preaching it, I couldn't give a toss Beach Hut if you change your mind or not.

What does it matter a f*** what was said! ZZ has been around at the top level for about twenty years I can guarantee he's heard worse than whatever Matterazzi said tonight.

Totally agree. You expect more from a professional of ZZ's standing.

And a better headbutt to boot!

And if it's going to be your last game and you're going out in disgrace like that...might as well lay a boot in too!

[Really, I'm kidding about laying the boot in...:jester: ]

No, you accused me of inventing an opinion just to be different from anyone else. That's bullshit. I've always disliked Materazzi as an individual - he has a record of run-ins and fights with other players as long as your arm.

But why do you always have to disagree with everyone. Obviously everyone has an opinion, however if I said it was dark outside you would tell me exactly why, in reality, its bright sunshine and touching 80 degrees.

Yep, would have been far funnier to have lobbed a couple of molotovs in through the windows of the pub just to really rub it in, and then shot the survivors as they ran out.

No? Perhaps I am missing the humour in this scenario? Perhaps it would have been just as funny had it been England supporters bottling a car (I seem to recall some on here thinking it amusing that a Palace car had been bottled for doing the same thing after a game against us).

What makes you say that? Like you say though, whatever he said must have been pretty vile.

Leaving aside his constant red cards over the years, the worst incident was just a couple of years ago in an Inter v Siena game. Materazzi wasn't even playing, he was on the bench. A former team-mate of his from Inter was playing for Siena at left-back. Throughout the entire game Materazzi shouted abuse at the left-back, urging the Inter players to attack him. On the final whistle, Materazzi went to the players tunnel, shouted more abuse at him and hit the left-back.

The left-back, who was a Siena player called Cirillo, then, with his face covered in blood, went straight on to a live TV interview.

He told the TV audience: "I am here because I want to show the world what kind of person Materazzi is".

Materazzi was banned for two months.

Many Azzurri fans can't stand the player - he was a very unpopular selection for this world cup - because they know what he's got up to over the years in Italian football.

But I guess that may change now he's emerged as something of a hero in this tournament - we'll see. Fans are fickle everywhere.

Thank you - and I've tried to back it up with some facts. Which is more than some are doing.

Agree with that but surely in twenty odd years you must have learnt to deal with anything chucked at you. Can you imagine what the Barca fans had to say to him during his time as a Madrid player. Even allowing for it being a WC Final, he's been there and done it all before and by now should have learnt to take all the comments with a pinch of salt.
