The only National Anthem I recognise is 'Sussex by the Sea!'

Sorry, but Mr Hoile has just been in touch to complain that's , in fact, only a "provincial anthem".

Good question JMC Nigels maybe?

AP I did not know that Madrid was the last place to fall all I know is that once he was in Madrid the city represented a lot of bad stuff about Franco, I get this half arsed history straight from the horses mouth (Spanish family who were involved) not books and I have never really studied the subject. That was the point I was making in relation to the minority of Barca fans sad behaviour

How about enjoying everything about the game, including the build-up? Of course loads of people aren't going to boo the national anthem beforehand whereas anybody who wants to get dewy-eyed over an 18th century dirge about a monarch, well it's a bit weird but that's fine with me.

Safeway if there a country called ******?

WHAT SORT OF AN ARGUMENT IS THAT?!?!

Just because 'Paki' is an abreviation of a country's name doesn't mean it's not offensive! Jesus wept!

As for the rest of your blubbering excuse for a post, to call an Indian a 'Paki' is highly offensive. Not only because it's a racist term but also because they f***ing HATE Pakistanis. Why do you think they split their country in the first place, and still fight over it today? Think about it!

There's no way you're going to convince me you find out an Asian's origins before calling them a 'Paki'. SURELY you wouldn't be that naive?

never studied it myself either. just know bits and bobs including some of the fiercest fighting was in madrid. several members of my dads family were shot by franco and my godfather had to escape to london for many years for fighting franco which leads me to also get very f***ed off about all the asylum shite that we hear.

anyway, ALBION!

Well obviously history isn't one of them. Don't you know there is a huge difference between 'Britain' and 'England'? I too am proud to be English and I want us to have our own identity. Dozens of other countries have Royal families, ours just live in bigger houses.

Actually, whenever I hear the National Anthem (despite the words) I always think not of the Royal Family but of the flag and what it is a symbol for. All the great people who have fallen in battle to allow you to carry on singing it. To all the great sportsmen down the years who have succeeded against all the odds whilst having the pride of representing their country heavy in their hearts and above all to ALL people who have been lucky enough to be a part of this great country.
I'm NOT a royalist (and yes I do think Rule Brittania would make a better National Anthem), but if it's been good enough for all those heroes from the past then it's good enough for me.

Fair comment. Personally I don't need a dull tune and a bit of colored rag to focus on that but fair play to you if those are your sentiments.

LOL History is one of them:salute:

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't much that is legal for most people in this country, but not for me.

In fact, the only thing that springs to mind is marrying into the royal family.

As long as they won't have me, I'll be less than enthusiastic about their so-called "national anthem".
