The fuel pump is long enough to stretch round, you imbecile.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
The hoses will reach BUT only if you park VERY near to the pump - a couple of feet the wrong way and you have petrol gurgling down your trousers.

I don't have a pump icon in my dash, the last bar on my fuel indicator flashes when it gets low.

Useless factoid.
If you happen to be driving a car and are unsure which side the filler cap is [yes I know most of you are saying it doesn't actually matter], then the fuel warning light on the dash will show you. The little fuel pump icon that lights up will show the nozzle as either on the left or the right and this WILL match to your car filler cap side. [have a look next time].

i can't wait to run low on petrol so I can try this out. Just filled the tank so no doubt I will forget before then and this interesting piece of information will float off into the ether.

Never had a problem with using the "wrong" side pump in any car in 25 years of driving

You will be one of those people with a shite car, or can easily change your car regardless of cost, or stupid enough not to realise the damage to your paintwork.

Its a rubber hose, does no damage or scraping whatsoever on my rear windscreen when it rests on it. Some of you need to MAN UP.

You don't work in the motor trade, do you?

This isn't true. Sometimes it is. But not always.

Has there ever been a more pointless thread than this.

I usually go to the pumps on the opposite side to where the filler cap is, just to show how clever and strong i am - those hoses can be jolly heavy.

But is someone wants to wait - and is happy to wait - then what's the problem.

all pumps reach round on all cars if you get close enough. F - A - C - T

All pumps reach round, but many people are too neurotic to 'take the risk'

I've never seen a pump that won't fit round to the other side. Absolutely mental sitting there queuing for one thats on "your side".

Not true - LPG hoses are deliberately shorter, so have to go the correct side.

(Love the hose through Tranny Story.. :D)

What the hell kind of piss-poor paintwork can be damaged by a rubber hose laying across it? Seagull shit left for a few days maybe . .

I went to fill up once at the Tescos at the junction of Dyke Road and Highcroft Villas/The Drive after a game at Withdean. The place was extremely busy and I queued behind a car at a pump where the driver was absent, naturally assuming that he/she had gone to pay for fuel. 20 minutes later a woman came out of the shop with her shopping. There were plenty of parking spaces in the area set aside for shopping. Needless to say, I was not particularly pleased, especially as we had been dicked 3-1 by Crewe.

My niece worked at a tesco in Devon and she said that happened all the time. I can't believe there are so many inconsiderate gits around...

useless factoid due to it not actually being true.

it deeply saddens me to see men waiting for the 'right side' pumps and it makes me worry for this country's future.
