I think they're trying to wear us down so that we don't care by the time the decision's made.

But they're wrong. The reaction will surely be the same regardless of the timing. They just have to get it right.

By they, I mean both jags, of course!

End of the summer according to BBC website today

See Here

"The plans for the Falmer stadium have been approved by the city council, but opposition from some local people and environmental groups led to a public inquiry, which lasted for several months last year. "

SOME local people....BASTARDS, damn those NIMBY'S to HELL!

... but that timing just makes no sense at all. 'by August' is sometime in July to me, but surely parliament is in recess by the middle of July, and doesn't return until, oh I don't know, but it's certainly not August.

The moment parliament takes summer recess, two jags and all the other politicians bog off on holiday until September at least, there is no way a decision will be made by his office during that time.

It's only MHO, but I reckon that we need a decision before they break up for the summer or we can forget it until October.

Labour PArty Conference, Brighton, Last week of September

Maximum Political Capital out of a Yes vote would be for Prescott to announce it in the first or second week of September, then swan off down to Brighton in his two jags to receive the plaudits.

Naturally the converse applies. If a NO decision then it won't be announced until October, after the conference has taken place, so that PRescott can avoid the eggs.

It will be perfect timing for the start of a new season, loads of good press, and the labour conference, loads of good press. It has to be a Yes!

The article says decisions can be made during recess and I read it again and it does say BY AUGUST however it goes on to say any decision could br subject to a judicial review and a judge could ask Prescotts office to reconsider...... now can the Nimbys afford to do this or for that matter can the Albion (if necessary)

Not true.

In August 2003, the ODPM managed to announce decisions in the case of 80 different planning applications. That is seven more decisions than were announced in June 2003.

Parliament doesn't come into it. All that Parliament does is pass laws and scrutinise the work of ministers and government departments.

It's a pity it is sooooooo easy to get a change of use of land for say .... a football ground to retail park and sell an institution down the river than it is to get permission to build an brand new, environmentally friendly community stadium on a BROWN FIELD (IMHO) site...  :censored:

I noticed a wonderful sentence in that BBC report!!!!

'A seven-day extension was made to the original deadline of 11 June because of conflicting planning reports'

That says to me that the Falmer inspector put in an entirely different report to the damning Charles Hoile report.

Or am I reading too much into it?
