He's been poor for a while, you can't deny that.

Actually I can. Yes he hasn't been at his best so far this season but we've only played 4 games! Do you think slagging him off is going to help him re-capture his best form ? Hammond is a very decent player for us and although he's not playing to the best of his ability currently he's still scored two goals already. Not bad eh? Lay off him.

Yes you're right. From now on I will praise all players even if I don't think they are good enough.

Im sorry, but Hammond does not deserve a place in the team atm. We just get overrun through the middle and he seems unable to run. Thinks its time to try someone else in CM

he only scored the winner on sat
and one of our top scorers last season

i dont know went on a 5 minuite mad one... but looking a hammond on a whole this season he has been 50/50 he makes some stupid misstakes but the lad loves to run foward with the ball.. and thats the problem half the time he is all ways out of posistion where as el-ebd should be covering him... just give him a chance a he will shine again this season

I honestly don't think he's good enough. If anything I think he causes El-Abd problems because play always go through him.

yeh i can understand that... may be if he was to get droped for 1 game and try a differant 2 in midfield but who?

a lot of games last season like when he was suspended he did miss him

Not sure why everyone has such a downer on El-Abd. He's inconsistent but when he plays well I think he does a great job in the middle.

I thought we seemed very weak down the right hand side, El Abd & Martot did not feel me with confidence when Southend broke down their left.

I was impressed with that black kiddy from Arsenal playing right back for Southend.

I agree although I thought El Abd was equally poor. However Hammond does seem to be weighing in with goals even when playing badly so probably deserves his place as long as he keeps scoring. I say El Abd was poor and that is from an attacking perspective, he is undoubtedly completely pants when it comes to going forward, his distribution and passing are not very good although his defending at times is very good. The problem yesterday was that El Abd saw far too much of the ball from backwards passes and the ball going square across the back.

As for the team on Friday, i'll go with 227s selection.
I thought El-Abd was OK on Saturday. Their left-winger didn't get to much joy, and Martot did not cover back as well as is required.

The point with El-Abd for me is that, as a full-back, it's well within his remit to hoof the ball. In fact, sometimes it's a necessity. When he plays in midfield, he doesn't have that 'luxury'. He has to PASS it. This is where is often goes wrong...

Everytime I have seen El-Abd in midfield his passing has been fine because he just keeps it simple.

Sounds like a shite excuse to be playing Hammond (because I agree, he has been poor) but its the whole club captain thing that makes me reluctant to drop him. Hammond is a good captain and if he were to be dropped, who would replace him as captain and as a central midfielder? I wouldn't like him to be dropped in favour of someone like Fraser. Hammond has been poor this season, last season he most definitely wasn't.
