Further up the thread.

Pleading not guilty is a big part of it.

I have a family reason for being extremely angry about court time and case prioritization, which I will not explain on NSC.
It is a massive big deal for us.
But despite that I can't get exercised over the duration of the tree case.
This is a case of national interest. Ours isn't.
We cannot allow shits to desecrate British Things that bring innocent joy and inspiration to people.
They need a decent fair trial with public scrutiny,
Before they have their testicles removed, and they are tipped into a wood chipper.

I'm not that interested to trawl through in all honesty. Fair enough people liked the tree but its a local news story at best.
It really isn't.
Your being crass on this occasion.
I am minded of some of the things that get you exercised.
Perhaps it's a generational thing

Yes it is a generational thing, or you just care about it a lot more, I file it under bizarre news story, like that grotty alpaca that had to be put down. I wouldn't say its 'national interest'.

You have every right to be unmoved.
But you are making a schoolboy error by extrapolating your perspective onto the national psyche.

I don't like Queen.
I can explain why.
But it would be churlish of me to extrapolate and say that Queen are not important in the national pop music psyche.
And equally silly of me* to jump onto a Queen thread with faux intellectual dismissal

*I will have to have a sneaky check up on what sort of opprobrium I have heaped on Queen on NSC later,
when nobody is looking. Ahem.

Anyway, you are a tree murder-mocking bastard. Fie upon you. Fie!

Surely replicating their offence would be more appropriate. A chainsaw just above the ankles and a painful toppling before lying in a prone and helpless position.

Yes it is " only a tree " but an iconic and beautiful tree that meant a lot to many people that had stood proud for centuries before a couple of absolute bellends decide to destroy if for a laugh and giggles and bragging rights. So utterly depressing. Hope they both get 5 years as an example to other possible morons

I visited the tree the day after we got married alongside my beautiful wife... in time, we took our kids... like thousands of people from across the globe., who sought it out year after year.. it's more than just a tree, it had an emotive and unique setting, with the human emotional pull that comes with it... I'd say it's a story of more than just national importance, people will be following the updates from all over the world... Yep, it was only a tree, but what a tree!

If proven guilty, these two should be made to serve time (proper hard they're going to look in prison) and then made to pick litter along the line of Hadrian's Wall for about 10 years. Utter dick heads.

It makes me sad, not angry... sad that two utter losers thought that this was a 'hilarious' idea. and sad that a rather beautiful and healthy tree was needlessly cut down...
