the irony of course is they were told last time they couldnt just walk into the EU club. they'll have to apply, prepare and join up like any other country, taking several years. and they'll have to adopt the Euro. and their economic deficit means they wouldnt be allowed in anyway.

If Scotland declared independence then it would automatically become one of the poorest nations in Western Europe. About ten years ago it's budget deficit was similar to the UK as a whole but now it runs at nearly 10% compared to UK's 4%. That places it with a higher deficit than even the Greeks and with oil and gas exploration at almost record lows that could well increase further. They get an extra £1200 per head compared to the rest of the UK and bring in £400 per head less revenue.

If they got independence then they would be taking on a proportion of the national debt with no Sterling currency and with no chance of joining the Euro with a budget deficit at that level. In short they'd be f*cked with a Mickey Mouse currency that even the North Koreans would laugh at.

The SNP don't want independence anyway, Sturgeon knows that a second referendum won't happen and she's playing to all her nasty little racist fans in lieu of actually running a devolved Scotland. She moans about English austerity but her party have had the power to rais taxes by up to 3% since the late 90s but they have never ever once done so or even looked at this because that would mean having to make unpopular but necessary decisions and be accountable for them. They'd much rather wallow in their victim culture.

I say call their bluff. Just look how much better off we'd be without them and it would finally mean no more Salmond and Sturgeon spouting their nonsense on the news.

Good luck Scotland without your substantial central government funding! Good news for the rest of the UK as we can use the money saved from not having to prop up the Scottish economy to offset some of the pain caused by Brexit. Can't wait to see them become a poor insignificant nation and then come back to the Union with their begging bowl.

Surely a post-brexit UK won't need to save any more money as we will have the £350M a week Boris and Co. said we give to the EU back won't we?

i like the Scots, and we've been a stronger nation with them. but i've really grown tied of all the bleating, and think this referendum will be great: if they win thanks and farewell; if they lose it will put it to bed for a couple of generations.

Her much more dignified predecessor Alex Salmond said after the last Scottish independence referendum that that was it for a generation - but unfortunately that dignity has not been passed on to the Poison Dwarf.
Roll on Article 50, after which Scotland, like the rest of us, will be out of the EU, with no option to return. If - and it's a big if - Scotland did get a referendum and broke away from the umbrella and support of the UK, they would have to apply for membership of the EU from scratch.
No special deal.
Full Schengen (sorry if spelling wrong).
Open borders (except or the one which the subsidies from England currently cross).
The Euro.
Inexorable move towards becoming an anonymous part of the US of Europe.
