Ahhh. I seem to remember another signal, which I added to my edit or is that if they run five runs?!
hhmm... interesting that you need to distinguish between batting and fielding side penalties..

The umpire signals five penalty runs by bringing one arm across his chest and touching his shoulder.
If he taps that shoulder, the penalty runs are awarded to the batting side.
If he simply places the hand there, runs are given to the fielding team.

Five penalty runs are awarded to the fielding side if the batting team:
Attempt to "steal" a run or run short
Deliberately waste time after having been warned
Damage the protected area of the pitch after two warnings.
Is there an explanation as to why it would be given to the fielding team? I can only think it would be if the batsmen removes his helmet and it hits that.
