I went there a couple of weeks ago and the staff were okay. What was the issue?

Black Horse, Findon

Thanks Dougal for your kind words about the Black Horse in Findon.
It is run by Mountain Range Restaurants, and we have two other sites, the Swan in Forest Row, near East Grinstead and The Coney in West Wickham near Bromley in Kent.

We have four full time chefs at all our sites to make sure that we maintain our standards if Chefs leave!

Little Brown Jug by Penshurst Station

Really good quality roast for around a tenner (I had sirloin - just pink; other option was lamb or turkey - TRHK Jr went for Roast feast, which was all of them on one plate). Decent beer. Good choice on the rest ofthe menu. Service immaculate. We were given more veg when they were asked for without a pause from the waitress. Will definetely be going back.

Went to Black Horse this afternoon! Food, very good value for money (Sunday has a set menu for £15 for 3 courses, menu on the website is accurate), had the roast, veggies were a bit undercooked but the beef was cooked very well, still slightly pink in the middle and a decent cut of meat.

Would defo go back, although finished plates stayed on our tables for a bit too long really and took a while to be seen too for bill, extra drinks etc, but food good and excellent value! Will go back so thanks whoever suggested it :)

It's impossible to have a roast in a pub anything like as good as a home one as they're impossible to cook from fresh in a short period of time. I've been to a fair few but you'll generally get at least one of veg, spuds or meat seriously overcooked.

Hove...
For those in central hove you need to try The Ancient Mariner on Rutland Road for all of their food. The burgers are the best I have ever had and the roasts are superb. I agree with you Notters about the fact that pub roasts are not quite like home cooking but this pub does do an excellent roast if you cant be bothered to cook..

Arundel
Trust me on this, if you want to come to the Arundel area in a car to get a roast go to The Woodmans Arms, on the A27 between Arundel and Worthing or The Bridge Inn, Houghton Bridge (right next to Amberley Railway Station)

You will not be dissapointed.

In Arundel you have the Black Rabbit, as has been said, you have The Bay Tree in Tarrant Street and The White Hart.
