I try to be positive but I'm gradually beginning to wonder..........

French Strikers for the World Cup announced

Louis SAHA (Man Utd), Thierry HENRY (Arsenal) Djibril CISSE (Liverpool), Slyvain WILTORD (Olympique Lyonnais), Franck RIBERY (Marseille), David Trezeguet (Juventus)

England Strikers
Wayne ROONEY (Man Utd treatment room), Michael OWEN (Newcastle treatment room) Theo WALCOTT (Arsenal reserves) Peter CROUCH (Liverpool - but no-one knows how)

Brazil Strikers
Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Robinho (Real Madrid), Ronaldinho (Barcelona), Adriano (Inter Milan), Fred (Olympique Lyon).

I think the Germans, Italians, Spanish, Dutch etc have some good players too

that french list doesnt do much for me,

the brazilians have depth like no other team.

I think the Italians have some quality and look watertight at the back again

germans arn't much , although there is a new kid coming through i believe

spanish on paper look good but its the spanish

That is depressing I agree. But we are going to have to rely on this:
Steven Gerrard (23 goals this season)
Frank Lampard (20 goals this season)
David Beckham (Still the best passer of the ball in the world)
Joe Cole (8 goals and in form)

Hate to put a dampner on the :clap2: 's, but even if Rooney and Owen are fighting fit for the Finals, we still have one BIG problem for this World Cup. And I fear it is insurmountable.

very good point.

i was thinking the other day what strength in depth the brazilians have in attack. but they have week links elsewhere, for example if we put pressure on that useless defender that leeds had for a while, they could crack. problem is if we let them attack us. (if we play them of course).
also was thinking that france won the 98 world cup without any recognised DECENT strikers. so with a midfield and defence like ours then why not.
biggest problem we are going to have is breaking down a decent defence and scoring a goal. but isnt that how greece won the euros with a solid defence and sneaking the odd goal here and there.
i do believe if they play to their potential and we usually do in the big tornaments then no other team has a midfield as good as our (1st choice 4).
im not saying we are going to win the tournament but surely we have a great chance.

Roque Junior has been left out of the Brazilian squad I believe.
They must've cottoned on.

Has anyone got that pic of the england bench when England score and Sven sat on his Arse looking guttted?

Regardless of Strikers we have the best Midfield and Defence in the World. This should mean we are in with a shout! regardless of Rooney and Owen.

cole is a question mark for me

If we had Italys defence I'd say we'd win it

Not sure we've got the best defence. Terrys a goodun, although not too quick. Ferdinand tends to drift off into dreamworld, Campbell could be an accident waiting to happen after his FLOUNCE a couple of months ago, A Cole and Bridge are good (when fit). Its a decent defence if they're playing to their potential, but I don't think it could be described as the best by any means.

Looks pretty similar to the England Bench when Geoff Hurst scored the 4th goal in 1966. Everybody jumping up except Alf Ramsey who sat there like the cold fish he was. If only we'd had an emotional manager who jumped up and down and waved his fists, we'd have won it then!

I agree with Easy10, Sven is the best manager we've ever had and if we don't win the World Cup it will be down to our inferior players.

PS - Don't anybody bother pointing out the factual inaccuracies in this post.

We've got no chance without Rooney ... quarter finals at best. With him we might have reached the semis.
