Watched it last night. Absolutely hilarious - the whole of the "phone call" with the manure purchaser was pure gold. No, platinum. Haven't laughed so much for ages. Poor old Lee Mack.

This! watched it last night after being reminded of it's existence by this august forum. It's the funniest thing I've seen him do. Simply outstanding. The bar has been set very high for the rest of the series.

I'm sure he's very good but I can't bring myself to watch Stewart Lee since his tour was advertised on Talksport. Every half hour the same two sh*t jokes with the same sh*t canned laugher.

"My two best friends are call William Hill - what are the odds"
"This comedy bus is going to giggle street"

...Stewart Francis?

Neither here nor there
I thought it was a good show, though not the best episode I've seen.

Also I don't think Chris Morris is as good as Armando Iannucci in that questioner's role. Some of that red button stuff with him was funnier than the actual programme.

Oh dear, what a moron! ::dunce:

At least it means you have no reason not to watch Stewart Lee.

Saturday's opener was excellent. The lines to camera about middle class guilt and the pause in telephone call when you knew the imaginary caller was saying 'What if I rang back three times?' were my highlights. The show was paced to perfectly fit the half hour slot. Hopefully, the touring he has done in preparation, splitting each show into stand alone half hour bits will show dividends for the rest of the series. I have read that next week's is the taxi driver rant about being arrested for calling yourself English. This was very funny at his Brighton show.

Strangely I saw Lee Mack rooting around in a skip outside his house that very day, he lives nearby but I couldn't remember his name at the time until Stewart Lee so brilliantly slagged him off without actually slagging him off. To be fair he seems very nice, he stopped me getting run over by his wife puling into the driveway.

Stewart Lee says he doesn't actually have any jokes. Which is actually one of his better jokes. He exists to destroy the kind of lazy derivative comedy you highlight above.

I can't remember what Chris Morris said but he managed to sum up Lee's act in a brilliant sentence. Re-watching it in a minute so hopefully will pick it up.

I've watched it twice already, and thinking of doing so again.

Whether or not he is the funniest comedian out there is subjective, but in my opinion his comedy is the most beautifully crafted and totally unique.

Cheers for the reminder.

Another example of the BBC criminally underadvertising its quality output. I haven't seen a single mention of this on any of their channels. Why do I have to be reminded about it by Facebook and football forums?

It was originally scheduled for a few weeks' time, but the Beeb realised they were going to fall foul of their commitment to balance around election campaigns, because one episode is about Farage/UKIP & local elections are approaching. So they brought the series forward at short notice. Hence lack of publicity.

Controversial statement I know but I am going to suggest that many people who don't find it funny don't get it. (Cue the "I do get it and still don't find it funny" brigade - No, no you don't)

I love the fact that the butt of his jokes are his own audience and himself. Although he does enjoy having a go at other comedians and celebrities too ;)

As someone else said I loved the stuff to camera about middle class guilt.

On the day after I watch the programme, I get the fantastic news that my eldest son has got a place at the local selective school. I have never voted Tory. I AM the person Stewart Lee was directly addressing when he talked to the camera, and don't I just love it...

Over there
"To spice things up, I've recently taken to wearing a pair of old jogging bottoms to bed
My wife says it makes me look like a Scottish heroine addict
Any more knock backs like this, I'll stop making the effort
Just another example of pornography raising levels of expectation "
Love Stewart Lee and the show was great

Thanks for this post. If you saw his recent show in Brighton, just imagine a party political broadcast by UKIP -- heavily featuring Paul Nuttall -- followed by Lee's sketch on Nuttall.
