There was contact, he exaggerated going to ground, but no team should have a go at him unless they are completely free of gamesmanship themselves.

I notice that he was clutching his knee, and looking at the replay it looks as though it was down to landing awkwardly on it - so it seems his reaction wasn't in fact to the foul, but to an awkward landing. That said, though, the look up and then carry on rolling does suggest that he was "trying it on", which I'm sure Gus has said is something he doesn't want his players to do. I hope Gus at least has strong words with him.

Someone posted a pic yesterday (@Acker79 ?) where Amoebi's knee catches Lopez just above his knee. It was stated after the game that Lopez got a dead leg from it and was certainly still limping for a few minutes after he came back on the pitch.

I actually like Pardew, but he was a hypocrite, saying that Lopez shouldn't have done that to a fellow pro.

Watch James 'the simulator' Perch 49 seconds into this clip, versus Reina. He nose barely touched Perch.

Reina had to be punished, but Pardew's player's reaction "was no way to treat a fellow pro".

That's my point though - everyone in football is hypocritical on this issue - managers, players and fans. When the opposition to it, it is a disgrace, when our own do it, people mutter an embarrassed "everyone else is up to it, so why shouldn't we?"

It's simply not right nomatter who does it - it's a blight on the game.

It's the sort of gamesmanship Suarez does week in week out and one of the reasons I hate him he's a cheat and what Lopez did was gamesmanship of the highest order. Just imagine if for instance Ameobi had got El abd sent off in similar circumstances. Nsc would have gone into meltdown.

Spanish Dave---Cheat?

2 points:
First Ray Parlour is a complete bell end who's opinion does not count.
Secondly yes I am disappointed in the theatrics it was not necessary and one of the negatives of the modern game whether its our player or another teams I would rather not see it.

I thought 'Dave' had his best game so far this season.Never seems to panic in tight situations-rarely gives the ball away(OK one or two:ohmy:)-plays it back-sideways-forward with purpose:clap2: But just one roll would have been enough to get the second card produced :wrong:

With respect, it's got nothing all to do with it - whether it was a foul or not is irrelevant. It's got everything to do with Spanish Dave's theatrics that had him rolling as if he'd just been pushed off the top of Devil's Dyke.

Or maybe there's some strange gravity thing going on in that part of the pitch.

No, it's not too far at all.

If it was an opposition player doing that, someone such as Zaha for example, Albion fans would be in absolute uproar and rightly so. There was no need to roll over and over and over again, and the glance in the direction of the ref just reaffirmed the cynical nature of what he was up to.

Was it a foul? Probably, yes.

Was it a yellow card offence? I'm not so sure. However, I'd hope the ref didn't give the card on the basis of roly poly Dave, so maybe it was.

I'd LOVE it for Albion fans to lead the way in calling our own players out for theatrics as maybe that's what it's going to take to finally get cheating out of the game.

'Probably a foul'!!!!!!! Are you blind?

at the time from my view in the north I thought it was clear cut foul and booking, having seen it he was embarrassing and everything I hate about football. hope he never does it again.

Then watch it again. It is quite clearly a foul as Ameobi's right knee catches Lopez just above his right knee. It was a foul and late and definitely a booking. The 'gamesmanship' by Lopez afterwards was not necessary, ie rolling after looking up but before that I saw nothing wrong. He got hit above the knee by someone who was bigger and taller. I doubt it was an actual dead leg otherwise he woudl have come off but he was limping for some time after that and didn't get involved for a few minutes.

I notice that he was clutching his knee, and looking at the replay it looks as though it was down to landing awkwardly on it - so it seems his reaction wasn't in fact to the foul, but to an awkward landing. Watch it again and see where Ameobi's knee catches him. Then go away and get someone taller than you to knee you in the same place and see how it feels!!!!

Agree with this.

Had a look at the match threads on a couple of NU forums. A few of their members were saying he didn't deserve a red card but glad he did cos he was shit.

Does anyone honestly give a shit? I for one would rather we play dirty and win than play fair and lose..

Not that we wouldn't have beaten that shower of shite we played on Saturday even if they had 12 men. They played better when he got sent off anyway

He would've been sent regardless of Lopez's reaction anyway. Stupid challenge to put in when you're already on a booking, El-Abd's winding-up job clearly got the better of him. Deserved what he got.

Adam El Abd will eventually get himself sent off---he doesn't need any help. I love him tho---did you see him giving mock pats on the back as Ameobi trudged off----classic

It happened right in front of me.... I thought both yellows were harsh. The first one especially. Honestly - if the Albion had had a player sent off for those two incidents, the whole board would be going beserk. In my opinion. Lopez let himself down a bit I feel.

Don't like to see any player rolling around like that even though it was a foul. Whenever I've seen a player receive a serious injury he's been left lying flat out - not executing a triple salkho.

If I thought nobody would 'give a shit' I would have gone to bed early and not brought this up----your turn:wink:

I've been more embarrassed by El-Abd falling to the ground clutching his face (Hillsborough) than Lopez.

I love Dave, be he cheated, he rolled over twice, looked up to see if the ref had seen it, then rolled over again for good measure. It was a bit embarrassing as the camera was right on him.

He tried to get his opponent booked and sent off by exaggeration i.e cheating.
