I think it's worth comparing the job Denly is doing compared with his Australian equivalent Marnus Labuchagne. They both broth broke into the test 1st XI more or less the same time. Both on 19 innings:

Labuchagne: 1,103 runs, Highest 185, Average 58, Strike Rate 56.2, 3 100s, 6 50s
Denly: 570 runs, Highest 94, Average 30, Strike Rate 41.4, 0 100s, 5 50s.

Oh come on, what a crazy comparison that is. Denly is the only one of our batsman who actually has some grit, the rest of them constantly give their wickets away. Comparing him with Labuchagne is pointless, it’s like comparing Chris Gayle to Boycott, totally different.

The relevance is that they both made their test debuts in winter 2018/19, their test careers are running in parallel and they both have the same job to do.

How can you argue with the facts? Labuchagne has come in and made Australia into a better team, providing his captain with batting support and making crucial centuries (for it is centuries that wins you tests). Denly has been asked to do exactly the same job at exactly the same time and has yet to bag a ton.

Denly has improved us it is those around him that have let us down.

If batsmen who go 12 tests without a ton make us a better team then God help us.

Bottom line - he's sh*t, every other batsman apart from Root and Stokes is sh*t too.

13 for 1.... need the Saffers all out for 150 for us to have any real hope.

Why solely point the finger at Denly when the entire batting line up is an absolute crock, even players like Burns who have done ok, have been very inconsistent, fact is our batting in its entirety is a shambles. 9BC5957A-E52B-4B7E-B88C-8FDB10ACBE35.jpeg

If we didn’t have the bowling attack we have, we’d be getting absolutely battered by teams.

FFS - pop out for a jog, get back and we're 9 down................

Need to get the Saffers out for around 100-120 to have the slightest chance here.
