If you win the toss, bat. If you're not sure, bat.
Never would you think this was truer than at the flattest pitch in the country, in a prolonged spell of glorious sunshine. Hindsight is a great thing, but if one hundred captains had won that coin toss, roughly one hundred of them would have batted.

Including Ed Joyce himself on winning the toss at Lord's in the championship game v Middx. By the end of day 1, we had no chance of winning it. This was me:

My knowledge of cricket is limited, but if you said to me "It's hot all over the UK, pick a toss to win" I'd say Taunton and bat.
