There is going to be a lot of money thrown at transfers over the next few days.

Next year the money from Sky will nearly double the money going to clubs in the Premier League - an extra £40 million a year.

There are about a dozen clubs in the PL that will spend to try and stay up and probably as many in the Championship that will spend to try and get into the Premier League - spend £20million to make £40million X 10 or 12 in the PL (Newcastle have already spent more than £29million - Norwich more than £22million - Bournemouth more than £17million) - spend £5-£10 million to make £40 million X 10 in the Championship (Sheff Wed have already spent £5million and Derby have spent a couple of million after £20million during the summer) - it could very easily happen with some if not all of them.

FWIW how I see it.
Our great leader stated in December that he wanted to strengthen from a position of strength. OK, Knockaert is definitely an improvement to the squad but we all know that what we really need is a proven striker. TB and PB are not stupid and they know this too.
Out of the top 6 clubs, only Middlesbrough dont have a striker that has scored more that Bobby, but they have a superior defence.
Some of the other clubs in the top 6 have 2 players that have scored more than BZ and Derby have 3.
Allegedly, we were willing to pay around £7.5m for Calleri but he is not a proven striker and has no record of scoring in the Championship, but may have been a great investment if not for the 3rd party ownership issues.
With less than 20 games to go of the season proper, we need a striker who will hit the ground running (or scoring).
We made a record breaking start to the season, and even though we have a great squad ,there is no guarantee of us making the same kind of start next season if we dont get promoted, so this season is a great chance to get to the promised land.
In the Championship TB is already bankrolling us to the tune of £10m a year but I reckon that with the increased Sky money in the Premier League and with the astute housekeeping of PB we may get to start to repay some of that.
Everything else is "Premier League Ready" so if their has ever been a time to splash the cash it is now.

Lets face it its the same story every January Transfer window.

Everyone gets excited the euphoria builds up to a massive expectation then BOOM! nothing happens!

And the summer window is much the same.

Everyone goes on about signings in Jan that get you promotion in Apr / May but its a lottery because save for a few foreign imports anyone available now is normally carrying baggage that more often than not shows itself about 4 weeks later!
