So the bloke who missed Englands do-or-die fixture against Croatia at Wembley (when Ferdinand was also out), but then happily turned out the following Saturday for Chelsea, is the new captain.

Good to have someone you can RELY on, eh.

So are you saying Capello doesn't know what he's doing?

no I'm sure he knows what hes doing football wise, but maybe hes not been in the job/country or know the players well enough or speak English well enough yet to make the best informed decision. "JT" is not a role model I would aspire to. I dont know if Rio is either but I'd rather him. Theres not many others for the job, Stevie G or Gary N maybe but not strong enough I dont think

Don't see why there should be "an England captain" who is always guaranteed his place regardless of form, courtesy of the fact he has the armband. The decision should be made on a squad-by-squad basis.

Personally, of the current squad, I would have Barry as captain.

Did I say that? No.

I think we should have looked for a change, instead of going for a man who's already a PROVEN failure as International Captain already. I can only hope he redeems himself...

But you seemed to put the lack of motivation for the team at Terry's door. It's like saying the manager of my department (one of 6) at work is responsible for anything that goes wrong company wide.

where does that come from?

there was an incident with Ledley King where rumour was Terry called him a coon, I think Spurs black players piled in though Chelseas did nothing. Ferdinands book at the time accused an England player of being a racist and everyone assumed it was Terry. All totally unproved and a lot of chinese whispers I think after YouTube took the clips off

"Apparently on the internet message boards it is alleged that
John Terry told Ledley King to 'Shut up you lippy black monkey' before getting sent off on Sunday."

From a quick search.

*waits for time-honoured NSC "what's so racist about that then" response from usual suspects*

Yes, but...APART from the racism, the spitting on other players, the physical abuse of referees, the drunken taunting of grieving Americans the day after 9/11, the taking responsibility for England's dismal failure to qualify for Euro 2008...apart from that, exactly what is it that makes this appointment so depressing, even if you're not much of an England fan?

He is not even the best centre-back at his club.

I have heard he is not the best centre-back in his family.
