Slowest player EVER to play for BHA.

Alex Dawson, thread closed.

No way! He was the slowest ever at lumbering back to the half way line (the opposition got loads of offside decisions while he was still lumbering back) - but he could move surprisingly quickly over two or three yards, usually when inspired by a goalkeeper on his line with the ball in his hands!

Didn't actually see him play of course, not sure if Fred Emney actually played for us or if he just led the team out as a celebrity but......

and

does anyone remember the goal keeper we had on loan at withdean a few years ago- he was on the half way line, ball coming back, he starts running backwards, falling over...??!! that was very very slow and probably the funniest/worst moment from a brighton player!!

Remember a game at withdean (poss Southend) when Charlie Oatway was the only player held back on the half way line to defend the counter attack at a corner. Shocking tactics, he was done for about 15 yards when they countered and scored, it was so obviously coming.

Martin Carruthers for Southend - I have never EVER seen anyone done for pace the way Oatway was that day...

Someone else has mentioned him already, but the winner is so clearly Jimmy Case during his second spell with us. He was over 40, joined us from Sittingbourne, didn't move more than 15yrds a game, but actually did very well spraying the ball around. He was also deaf by this time, which got him sent off at Leicester for not hearing the whistle. Classic.
