I am not sure why the Old Bill aren't a bit better at stopping the fans of clubs with known problems like Leeds (& Cardiff!) from getting into town. Shouldn't they just be herded back on a bus or train to wherever they came from. This is particularly true given the tiny number of away fans allowed into Withdean. Am I being naive?

On an away trip though I like to see the town or city we are visiting, why should it be out of bounds because a few travelling OR local idiots spoiling for a scrap!

They are and have done in the past. It is easy enough when it is a team like Pompey, there is an obvious route they will take and lots of liason between Hants and Sussex OB. I think a load of them got turned back at Chichester. I guess it is harder when playing a team like Leeds, they are travelling from different parts as they traditionally have fans from various bits of the country and some coming down for the weekend, some for the day etc.

Sussex police know all the people who are involved in the hooligan 'scene' in Brighton.

I also know that some of the Brighton old bill whose duties involve policing of Brighton matches actually like the fact that Brighton have a 'firm'.

I have overheard some Brighton coppers, who go to away matches to help the other towns coppers as spotters and help with intelligence, bragging to the other force about brighton fans behaviour, how they ran that team, how many they took etc.

When we played Palace 2 years ago, after leaving Clapham junction and arriving at Thorton Heath, one of the Brighton football Old Bill said to his Palace counterpart 'theres my boys' it was as if he was proud of the amount of nutters Brighton had there!!

But there is one sussex copper who is hell bent on capturing every single one of Brightons 'firm'.

I have heard him say, after arresting somebody a couple of seasons ago, 'I'll have the lot of you, by hook or by crook, guilty or not, I will get all of you if its the last thing I do in this job'

If the guys arrested recently are innocent, I hope they have a very good brief representing them !

Leeds fans did nothing, the Brighton police even said so, it was your lot.

A coach full of Brighton nutters was not allowed into Sheffield last year, police turned the coach back just outside Sheffield and escorted them all the way back to Brighton.

Why should the fans of any visiting club be prevented from getting into Brighton?

We were playing Chesterfield that day.

So when a group of decent Brighton fans get set upon by Leeds thugs later in the season as an act of revenge we just say "O well thats football", bollocks, they should be named, shamed and publically humiliated.

And Leeds fans will certainly go for it. These 18 or so idiots will mean that a lot of Brighton fans will meet a lot of trouble in West and South Yorkshire!.

And if you're travelling by train it can be anywhere from Doncaster thru to Leeds Town centre, on the buses to Elland Road, after the game, whilst waiting for the return buses, back at the town centre, the station and stops back through Yorkshire.

Well as I live in Leeds, games down south can be difficult to get to.

IF i lived down there, of which I hope to next year then I will be ensuring I get to most of the away games down there!!

Meridian have just done a feature about the early morning raids in their usual tacky style. Whilst I'm sure it's not relevant to the new enquiry, it's bad publicity we could have done without...

As for naming them however, I do agree that it is out of order putting their names in the press before they are tried. If found guilty then yes by all means name them, but until then, don't.

It doesn't matter what offence you have committed your name is printed in the paper before you have been found guilty, even if it is shoplifting etc.
The paper simply states the people concerned have been arrested and charged.
