Isn’t it hat why we signed Cashin?
He's not going to be only CB we sign in 2025, pretty sure of that.

Keeping van Hecke will be near impossible and Lewis Dunks days as an obvious starter will be over. Igor very likely shipped to anywhere. Cashin could possibly be loaned out depending on how he's doing in trainings now. Meanwhile the best U21 options are 17 years old.

I'd say some action on the CB positions is inevitable. Could imagine we buy 3-5 CBs with maybe two intended for next season.

Why do you think keeping Van Hecke is near impossible?

I get that he could be in demand, but I’m not sure anyone will pay the price we’d ask for. Contract until 2027 but I’d assume with a + 1 option. Not a perfect situation for us so I imagine a new contract will be on the table for him.

Meanwhile, the Bournemouth centre halves and Guehi will likely be where the big clubs call first.

It depends where we finish re keeping JPvH, same goes for 2 or 3 others.

Dunk gave an interview Saturday where for the first time (I think) he said he’s been struggling for a lot of this season with minor injuries. I wouldn’t write him off just yet but agree he’s gone past the summit now.

Cashin is interesting, it felt like a tactical signing, Dunk and Igor out and Webster could have broken down after 2 games rather than 8. We’ll see next season I guess.

I completely disagree with that. He's had a good season, but not at the sort of evel that's going to have bigger clubs beating a path to our door, especially not in a summer when Huijsen (has a release clause), Guehi, potentially Branthwaite, Maguire and others will be available. Harwood-Bellis hasn't had a great season but the fact somebody saw fit to pick him for England a few months ago means he's clearly considered to have decent potential, and with Saints going down, somebody will pick him up.

JPVH is great but I'm very confident he's still going to be here next season.

There’s a Jpvh hole in Man City’s defence . I agree with you though , there are a few quality centre backs knocking around and vh hasn’t done quite enough this season

Another couple of wins for Webby since he returned to the starting line up takes his win% ratio for the season, when starting a game, to an amazing 80%!! Started 15, W12, D2, L1. The defeat being the brain fade Kamikaze game at Chelsea which he only played 57 mins (admittedly he was on the pitch for the 4 conceded goals) but he has been awesome this season when required and hopefully he carries on in the same vein next season and if stays fit has got to get the nod over Dunky based on this season's form.

Fully agree, I only looked at Premier League average points where over 45 mins played but this season
Webster 2.44 (9)
Igor 1.60 (10)
JPvH 1.45 (33)
Dunk 1.17 (23)

He has been immense when playing but he did have one shocking moment when a misplaced pass very nearly resulted in a Liverpool goal last night. Long time since I’ve seen him make such an error.

I really hope we give him a contract extension as these errors are few and far between these days, and all defenders make them now and again.

I, too, would choose him over Dunk this season.

As with the spell up to the Forest FAC game, playing far and away the best football of his career. Used to have a key error or two (over committing or going to ground 40 yards from our goal) in every game. Now completed eradicated from his game.

What a partnership with JPVH  :ascarf: .

Not completely, there was one in the second half yesterday,
But yes, he is far more reliable and in the best form of his career.

He has overtaken Dunk, or rather Dunk has dipped below Webby's level.
That may change, It will be interesting to see how Dunk comes back next season

Into the final year of his contract next season. Based on this season’s showing, he definitely deserves a new one.
Best run of form (pre and post most recent injury) for us. Looks quality.

The problem issss… he’s always broken down with injury. He’s stepped up a level when he plays now, particularly now he’s next to JPVH with whom he was a great understanding, but we could never count on him at this stage for 38 PL games plus cups and hopefully Europe.

I hope he proves me wrong, but we’ve got an issue now because we have Dunk (c), JPVH, Webster, Igor and Cashin. And Veltman can play there, and Wieffer and even Baleba did.

Two are going to have to leave and based on what we’ve seen this season (not not seen in one case) that looks very much like Cashin and Igor.

I think it’s worth it for his experience. I don’t think it would make financial sense to spend money on someone his age with the amount of Premier League appearances that he has, who can play the way we want, so we may as well keep the one we’ve got. I’d give him another 3 year deal, he’d be 33 by then and probably ready to move on.

In terms of RCB, we should just (finally) sign a proper right back and let Veltman dedicate his time to Centre Back. Wieffer and Baleba are good cover but I’m not sure either of them want to be playing there permanently (players tending to prefer their natural positions and all).

Agree re Cashin and Igor. I have always maintained that Igor isn’t good enough and the signing of Cashin was frankly bizarre. Both of them can go and we can get some decent players in on the left hand side. JPVH, Webby and Velts between them should be able to manage the right hand side.

Wieffer has been a revelation at RB the last couple of games. He seems to have that knack (à la Caicedo) of somehow just getting a toe to the ball when tackling from behind or the side. I'd imagine it's definitely "cheerio" to Tariq, and probably Igor. I think Cashin needs a loan at a top Championship side, or maybe Bundesliga (if there are any takers)....he's obviously not ready for the Prem yet.
