I'm not sure NISA and BEKO have obvious pronunciations. They're foreign brands and how the natives of the countries they're from pronounce them usually has little bearing on how we choose to pronounce them.

As for Amex, it's a portmanteau of American and Express, so it is correctly pronounced as it is written, AM-EX.

NISA isn't foreign , just northern (originally pronounced NEESA) and was formed in 1977 as a convenience store wholesaler (set up along the lines of a co-operative) by Grimsby supermarket entreprenuer Dudley Ramsden. Mr Ramsden is the Life President of Grimsby Town FC.

I worked for Amex for 8 years and it was always Ammex
then why not spell it that way

Good to see people trying their upmost to persuade Glasfryn that he's wrong.

I will NEVER, so long as grass is green, recognise the pronunciations of Nike as Nikey... or Porsche as Porscher

Gawd I hate that mistake 'upmost' when it's 'utmost'!

But to be fair, Glasfryn has started this thread 'off his own back*'.

*should be 'bat', obviously, for anyone who actually says 'back' for that phrase...pleeeease don't say it in front of me or I WILL scream!
