Why is it that every time someone I have on ignore starts a thread, it either gets mocked to within an ounce of its life, or it gets attacked like a skin diver gets attacked by a shark if he's wearing a 'bite me, shark, yerb'stard' emblazoned wet suit?

And, bring it on Spency, time to tell us all that nobody cares what I think.

Guardian reporting we are the frontrunners:

Mbwana Samatta could be set to become the first Tanzanian player to move to the Premier League, with Brighton, Crystal Palace and Norwich all interested in signing the striker from Belgian champions Genk during the January transfer window.

Samatta, who scored in Genk’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool in November, has a €10m release clause in his contract which expires at the end of next season with all three English clubs understood to have been closely monitoring his progress this season. Having moved to Belgium from TP Mazembe in 2016, the 26-year-old finished as top scorer in Belgium last season and became the first east African to win the coveted Soulier d’ébène award for the best African or African origin player in the Belgian Pro League.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Lazio have also expressed an interest in signing Samatta this month, although it is believed he would prefer to play in a league which is closely followed in Tanzania. Brighton are thought to be the frontrunners at this stage, with manager Graham Potter looking to provide attacking support for Neal Maupay amid interest from Aston Villa and Newcastle in 36-year-old Glenn Murray.

I *think* he has lived in Belgium long enough now to get the residency paperwork needed to avoid a work permit.

Sing him up, Tony !

How does residency in Belgium qualify him for a work permit in the U.K.??

If we really are one of three PL clubs interested, then we're probably going to have to pay more than the 10M euro to trigger the release cause in order to outbid the others, as well as offer a very decent wage to go with it. Fee and wages both being >50th centile for the Premier League would however sort out the work permit issue.

Why would anyone pay more than the release clause? There's no bidding war to be had for the transfer fee. It'll be the player's terms that will decide where he goes.

If we offer 10m Euros and Palace offer 20m Euros, is the selling club still obligated to accept whichever offer the player prefers?

I thought that was the point of a release clause - any bids for the specified amount have to be accepted.

By 'The Bernie Taupin of the football chant world' do you mean your songs are sung by only one bloke (plus, occasionally, Kiki Dee)? ???

Actually it has a ring to it . . . . .
