This Molango sounds like he could be a find. Surely it must be worth giving him a short term deal to test him out in Div 1.

I think we will definately sign Molango, if that showing is anything to go by, he looked good on the ball & took his goals well.
He even gave it to the Crawley fans after he scored the first :D

Number 9, whatever his name was, didn't impress much. Looked a bit lazy but got into some good positions & was unlucky not to score with a header.

Didn't think Watson played too bad.

Which is the number 7 s christian name as The Argus put it the opposite way round to the way the annoncer at Crawley annouced it. i.e Maheata Molango or similar bui it was announced Molango Mahaeta. before the game and on both occassions that he scored, which it would have been if that is how he was told it was.

Harding came on as sub for Mayo at left back.
As Kinkygerbil said Virgo came on at half time in midfield - looked a bit out of place.

Good reporting TGC. I was there this afternoon and I would def like Meheta Molango (as our official site lists him) and Kerekes if we can have both.

Tankery didn't look quite as good.

Roberts fell onto an iron bar which ran around the base of the goal net and gave his head a really nasty knock. He still played both halves though.

A good work out for the lads.

Fine day out and nice to see the new guys.

It was a good performance but nothing to get carried away about. Midfield still very bitty but not surprising given our best players are still out. We were the stronger team today, though, our organisation at the back limited Crawley to a few chances, and we managed to get the ball forward somehow and created about 8/9 scoring chances of which our impressive strikers took three. Crawley kept up with the pace well in the first half and were unlucky not to score, but fell off it in the second half and allowed Albion to put a satisfying gloss on their performance.

The headline news is, of course, the performance of Molango. By far the youngest of the 3 triallists at 20, the exciting thing about him must be his potential.

He looks to have some pace, and good skills and trickery when running at defenders at pace. Difficult to estimate how "strong" a player he is. Some of his lay-offs were not quite as accurate as they should have been. But he took his 2 goals excellently and also put in an excellent cross for Kerekes. He is young and keen and is LOVING it, and is building a rapport with Brighton fans already with his celebrations and clenched-fist salutes!

Him and Leon would make an intriguing partnership. Although he is tall but not excessively so, it does appear Molango prefers the ball at his feet and not in the air. That suggests a good partnership with Leon. But, of course, a change in our direct tactics. If McGhee does end up signing him and pairing him with Leon, it could have important consequences for out playing style and hence who we play in midfield.

Kerekes, the Iwelumo-style triallist, big, aerial player, I thought also looked promising. He didn't quite have as eye-catching a game as Molango because of the 3/4 chances he had, he didn't take them. Would have been disappointed with one of them, which looked straightforward, but there might have been an offside.

Kerekes is similar to Big Chris in that, as a big unit, he is not blessed with natural acceleration. But what was promising was that he seemed to display OK close control and looked strong protecting the ball. I would argue that for the first half he was on, he was as influential as Molango. One fine shot form distance, did also very well to get on the end of a cross and his header brought out a wonder save from the Crawley goalie. McGhee I think will look very closely at him because he will give us that "direct" dimension that will not require a big change in our current style.

Tankary, rather misleadingly named as he is the slightest of the three triallists, got the second half and I thought did little wrong. The most experienced of the three, he was unlucky not to get the scoring chances of the other two, had one which he probably didn't do as well as he should have. But I thought he looked capable and skilful, without perhaps the youthful desire and movement of Molango.

For me, it is not suprising then that the Argus stated that McGhee is considering taking all 3 if finances permit - each have promise I feel.

Of the rest, Watto had a good comeback, very calm and measured. Kerry did OK and looked bright going forward, just let down by one absolute howler of a pass that almost gifted Marney a goal. Did Kerry play as good a pass to him all that time he was at the Albion :jester:

Cullip/Butters solid as ever, Harding on at leftback similarly. Of the wingers, Piercy and OGH had frustrating games. Jonah looked the most in form when he came on, great movement and energy.

Not a game really to suit Charlie. Hammond didn't really advance his claims, Virgo looked out of place in midfield and a few others like Lee (I think) had little time at the end to do much.

Leon looks in good touch and although his goal was a deflection, the power in his angled shot from distance deserved the good fortune.

I think MM will be satisfied.

Everyone knows this is going to be a tough season, so it's nice that NSC nerves are being calmed by some professional performances in these opening pre-seasons.

That iron bar round the base of the goal was well dodgy. Reckon Crawley should be made to get rid before somebody cracks their skull on it. Oh, hang on, somebody just did.

That No.7 did look useful, and well worth giving a serious workout against stronger opposition.

Kerry Mayo looks to have lost a bit of beef, and Watto was putting in the odd tenacious tackle. Things are looking up.

Excellent comedy moment when Danny Marney tok a swig out of Roberts bottle of Evian while the keeper's back was turned. :D

And for reasons best known to himself, Easy 10 seemed to be presiding over a masterclass for the under-fives at throwing missiles on the pitch. Eventually the stewards, with the aid of dogs and tear gas, managed to quell the mini-riot. Unseemly scenes.

No. We do need something in midfield though.

Paul Reid has signed and is suffering injury at the moment.

It is difficult to judge how effective he will be with the new strikers.

Both wings look very weak by Championship standards.

Do you mean Jonah who got the goal of the season at Forest?

It was only a work out today. The first half of the game I thought we used the width of the pitch quite well
