No ****ing way. Transformer is one of my all time favourites as is Velvet Underground & Nico. Only a year older than my dad. Shit. RIP.

Of the 40 or 50 bands I've seen live on Wembley Stadium stages he was, by far, the worst

You are the same man who told a compulsive gambler trying to give up that you made money at gambling. I take it all back about the Major, he is not the biggest :tosser: on this site

Strangely enough, Steve Wright played wotws 2 days ago when I was driving and I whacked the volume up, what a tune!

I love that tune although I never got into anything else of his because it was before my time.

Really sad news. Will give Sister Ray a good blasting later.
17 minutes of sheer noise, great lyrics & story telling by a very underated songwriter, very much into vu & nico, acquired taste specially nico, influenced so much of the music scene from punk to bands of today.rip

Naturally I've been thinking about LR.

Through my formative years, I seemed to know or work/drink with a totally committed Reed fans, all disparate people unknowing of each other.

I guess like many I started with Walk on the Wild Side - Transformer - back to Nico - then through to Metal Music Machine (but not actually ever buying or listening to it).

One odd-bod I worked with lent me all his Velvet's vinyl, pretty much everything they put onto a record.
I remember him desperately trying to hand over the record bag, but really struggling to give up his pride and joy to the office kid, and an oiky one at that.

Anyway all this set me up nicely for New York, 20 years old, having unfortunately had some 'life experiences' it was probably my first 'grown-up' album.
I had it on cassette, vinyl and CD, wearing the first 2 out.

Great sounds.

I was a little unsettled tonight, now I just have 6 music on writing this listening to 'Waiting for my Man'.

That'll do.

Wow - didn't see that one coming - he looked pretty fit last time I saw him on the TV. Only 71; had a liver transplant in May, which may be something to do with it.
Saw him and John Cale perform Songs for Drella live on TV, and it was one of the most compelling and mesmerising things I've ever seen on the box. Saw him live in the early 70's too - great man, great musician, great loss.
RIP
