I imagine woodgate is starting then with Rio...

It wouldn't surprise me, and to be honest they would make a pretty good pairing.

I am happy as long as Capello does all of his experimenting before the qualifiers. Certain past England managers have carried on experimenting during qualifying matches and made england look silly - hopefully Capello is better than that.

As long as he doesn't 'merc' any of his team-mates  I think he'll make an excellent captain, he leads by example.

I read that Capello doesnt rate Gerrard very highly even as a player let alone captain, I hope that he has the same opinion about Terry and drops him in favout of Woodgate who is a far better footballer..

How can he think that after he watched Gerrard completely tear Internatzionale to bits then leave them for dead with baby batter pouring from their every ripped orifice.

Oooh I feel all a quiver now

Dunno why theres all this fuss of Rio, Capello quite clearly stated ages ago he wont chose the full time captain until the qualifiers so he has every right to try out different el capitanos until then

I think Rio makes a great captain, and a good partnership with Woodgate

I think its the way Terry conducts himself on the field that has cost him the captaincy reading into this from BBC website

However, the England manager did add: "A captain must be an example to follow in training and a leader during the game. And, of course, I would hope he could be an example, a role model outside the game - in life - as well.

"That's very important, always. Not just for the England captain, but for everything that we, as sportsmen, show youngsters. That is very important. He has to be an example.

"We need to be role models when we play for England and when we play for our clubs. Part of this involves fair play and respect towards the referee and the public who come to see the games.

"In that respect, we need to get back something we may be losing a bit."

I think Rio deserves that to be honest. In the last year or so he's not only turned into a very VERY good footballer but, aside from all that MURKING bollocks that was actually quite amusing, also a good ambassador for the game. He does a load of work for his foundation now and doesn't seem to be such a dick anymore. Better that than give it to Terry who isn't the best centre back in the world and whose off field behaviour leaves a LOT to be desired.

Good move, IMO.

What exactly has Terry done off the field to make him worse than a drugs cheat, who's been banned from driving four times, once for drink-driving, and various incidents of alleged homophobia?

I think it should have been Gerrard personally. Nothing against Ferdinand, he's been brilliant in the last few years, but when was the last time he captained a team regularly? For me, it would have to be Gerrard or Terry, purely because they have regular experience of captaining their clubs. Also, I like the captain to be in midfield, so Gerrard would be my choice.
